ABSTRACT

The Effect of Mango Peel Powder (Mangifera Indica L.) to LDL Level (Low Density Lipoprotein) of
Dyslipidemia Mouse (Norvegicus Strain Winstar)

Dyslipidemia is an abnormal condition of the lipid level in the blood, where there are
elevated of cholesterol level, LDL level, triglyceride level, and lowered HDL level. The most dangerous
lipid in the blood is LDL because of this atherogenic characteristic. If it is elevated too much in the
blood, it can affect atherogenesis. It is suffered many people in the world. It can cause another non
communicable disease where it can be a more serious condition such as coronary heart disease,
heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and stroke. This is caused by lack of soluble fiber
dietary level, especially in fruits and vegetables consumption each day. This study was investigated
the existence of soluble fiber on the mango peel can lower LDL level in the blood. An experimental
study using pre and post test control group design was conducted to 30 healthy male mice
(Norvegicus Strain Winstar) over a period of 2 months from August 2017 to October 2017. The
samples were selected by random sampling and divided into five groups, that were postive control
group (n=6), negative control group (n=6), treatment 1 group (n=6), treatment 2 group (n=6),
treatment 3 group (n=6). On the first week, the mice were adapted to the food, cage, and the
environment. On the twenty one days after, the mice were treated with high fat diet. Then, mice
were weighed and were checked lipid blood level. And fourteen days after, mice were treated with
mango peel powder. The last, mice were checked final lipid blood level. The statistical test was using
software SPSS and used One Way ANNOVA test.
