B What is Red? by Mary ONeill

Paraphrase of the Poem

The persona talks of things that are naturally red and things that are associated or tinged with
red. The sunset, a sunburn spot, a rose, blood, a brick, a lipstick, a fire engine, trimmings on a
circus cart and fire are red in colour. Certain feelings like being brave, embarrassment and anger
are associated with red. A signal that indicates danger is also red. With all these associations, red
is a proud colour but we cannot do without it.
