Learning Outcomes:
1. Acquire the knowledge and understand the diversity of the scope of management in
organisations (MQF1).
2. Conduct a research and to communicate information effectively in both oral and written
form (MQF1, MQF7).
3. Apply the subject models and frameworks in order to suggest solutions to management
problems (MQF2, MQF6, MQF8).
4. Understand the underlying concepts and principles related to management activities and
the roles of managers (MQF1, MQF8).
Group In-course assignment weighted at 50% with 15% of the total contributed by an
individual components (LOs 1 - 4) as per MD
Assignment Description
This assignment represents 50% of the total marks for this subject; the assessment will be
marked at 100%. The deliverables are:
A. Group Written Report 70%
The report must follow the standard academic format:
Font : Times New Roman
Font Size : 12
Spacing : 1.5
Due date : 2 May 2017
B. Presentation 30%
This will be a group presentation but individually assessed. Each group member will be allocated
equal time to carry out his/her presentation, and must present with the group, absentees will not
be awarded any marks.
During the individually assessed presentation, students may present additional information to their
contribution in the written report. However, this will not affect the assessment of the written report.
Every member of the group should be prepared to answer questions on any aspect of the
presentation/ written report. Each one should therefore be familiar with the entire written report.
Part A: Group Written Report
In a group of not more than FOUR (4) members, answer the following question in not more than
2000 words (word count exclude diagrams, tables and references).
You are to attach a soft copy of your report in a CD when making your submission on the
designated date.
Part B: Group Presentation

In a group of not more than FOUR (4) members, all the group members need to present their group
work and will be assess individually. Each group will be given 20 minutes for presentation.
Question
Select TWO (2) existing business organisations of interest to you. Compare and discuss any
FOUR (4) elements of organisation structure that you can observe. You should choose business
organisations that allow you to discuss the differences or similarities related to the selected
elements of organisation structure.

Formalisation
Departmentalisation
Chain of command
Work specialisation
You should also comment on the effectiveness of the organisational structure of the selected
companies and provide recommendation on how to further improve their organisational structure.
Note:
You need to consult your lecturer to obtain approval before working on the selected
organisations.
In your report, you are required to provide proper citations and follow Harvard Referencing
format when making references to any external sources of information, theories, concepts and
frameworks.
