Abstract: Based on pragmatic perspective, this paper analyzed the Chinese adverbs Cai () and Jiu ()
with the help of modern experimental phonetic methods. The phonetic analysis on adverbs was necessary and
had many advantages comparing with traditional methods of intuition. Furthermore, such quantity
measurement and comparison of prosodic features in sentence level would benefit the development of
speech recognition and speech synthesis.
