respect for rules and laws, taking responsibility for ones own
actions, fairness, caring, and citizenship,

Goal
Students will increase their awareness on bullying and grasp proactive steps on how to prevent
bullying.

Introduction (15 minutes)

o Video
o What is bullying?
An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their powersuch as
physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularityto
control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in
different situations, even if they involve the same people.
Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the
potential to happen more than once.
o There are 3 types of bullying
Verbal
Examples: Name-calling, Threatening to cause harm, and
Teasing
Social
Examples: Leaving someone out on purpose, Telling other not to
be friends with someone, and spreading rumors.
Physical
Examples: Hitting, Kicking, Making mean or rude hand gestures,
and pushing.
o Game
Students will use a red or green sign/paddle to answer questions based on
bullying.

Debrief (10 minutes)

How can you prevent bullying?
Be an upstander, not a bystander
Upstander: sees or hears about someone being bullied, they
speak up. They help support and protect a friend/person. Another
word that is similar and frequently used is socially responsible.
Bystander: A person who is present at an event or incident but
does not take part.
Who can help?
 o Adults: Teachers, Parents, School counselor

Closing (5 minutes)
