Objective:
To obtain a full-time electrical engineering position immediately after graduation.
Education:
IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY | ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING | GRADUATION: 5/2018
Cumulative GPA: 3.10
IOWA INSTITUTE FOR COOPERATIVES SCHOLARSHIP | AWARDED: 8/2016
Scholarship aimed at students who excelled at an Iowa Cooperative.
Career Experience:
PRODUCT ENGINEERING INTERN | JOHN DEERE | TERM: 5/2017 8/2017
Partnered with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) to design, fabricate, test, and showcase a design to interface a
truck/SUV lighting scheme to a towed agricultural implement lighting scheme.
Performed human touch current testing of John Deere seeding motors to give engineering recommendations for risk assessments.
DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING INTERN | MAQUOKETA VALLEY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE | TERM: 5/2016 8/2016
Data analysis for various engineering projects that increased system reliability.
Conducted a load balance study by making recommendations on phase changes by substation feeder to best balance the load on the
substations; which helped increase voltage levels on the system and decreased line losses.
Analyzed the seasonal model from a system loading perspective to ensure that no over-current protection devices were being overloaded
and would trip during normal loading conditions.
Evaluated the diversity factor on distribution transformers that have more than one meter connected to them. This allowed for quick
analysis of future loading to ensure transformers are sized appropriately.
Analyzed distribution transformer failures to see if a certain age or manufacturer needed to be targeted for retirement.
Enhanced the load forecasting model to account for seasonal loading instead of annual loading.
Analyzed system losses on a substation by substation basis. Substations that are higher than the system normal losses were looked at in
depth to determine why the additional losses occurred.
Enhanced a spreadsheet used by the line design technicians to help them identify possible ground clearance or uplift situations easier and
more accurately. This was done by visually adding the line conductors and sag patterns.
E&I RELIABILITY CO-OP | LYONDELLBASELL | TERM: 6/2015 1/2016
Exposed to power distribution, process instrumentation, communications, safety instrumented systems, and hazardous area classification.
Upgraded a wireless gateway with a firmware update and added a redundant power supply.
Made recommendations regarding troublesome electric motors that were periodically failing due to contamination.
Relocated and redesigned a vital moisture analyzer in order to increase system reliability.
Created a relay setting spreadsheet for programmable relay switch settings in an onsite substation.
Shadowed an onsite motor control center installation.
Assisted with integrity testing of an onsite transformer.
Pushed to action a project to redesign a heat trace circuit for added reliability and redundancy. This project was implemented shortly after
my departure.
Coordinated onsite co-op exchange.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING INTERN | FRES-CO SYSTEMS USA, INC. | TERM: 5/2014 8/2014
Initiated an onsite arc flash analysis of electrically hazardous equipment.
Completed a plan for purchasing of PPE for onsite technicians that may be exposed to electrically hazardous equipment.
Initiated an onsite energy efficiency audit with MidAmerican Energy.
ASSISTANT MANAGER | J BRUNERS RESTAURANT | TERM: 3/2008 - CURRENT
Assistant manager of back of the house operations.
Assisted in logistics and construction of new business location; which opened in June 2015.
Technical Experience
Programming Experience: C, Verilog, and Linux OS/Raspbian OS. Currently taking classes with Java and VHDL.
Software: PSPICE, Cadence, MATLAB/Simulink, Autodesk Inventor, Arduino, WindMil, and TI Code Composer.
ISU Hackathon 2017 Project: We built a universal television remote called TV-B-Gone using an Arduino.
