1. Describe what the American with Disabilities Act is and why it is important.

The American with Disabilities Act is a law that prohibits discrimination for employment,
transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to state and local governments
programs and services. The ADA is divided in 5 titles that relate to public life. It is important because
it gives those with disabilities an equal opportunity to succeed in life. It also prevents discrimination
on the basis of someones disability, such as providing a ramp to a school for a student to learn.

2. Describe what Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act is and why it is important.

Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act is the section of the law that prevents discrimination of
public entities (and public transportation). This protects individuals at the local and state level, so that
they can access public transit and entities. It is important because it allows individuals to ride on
trains, go on buses, etc. when they may need accommodations to do so. An example would be a
disabled person riding a school bus to get an education.

4. Describe what Assistive Technology is as it related to students and learning. Provide at least
two examples.
Assistive Technology is assistive devices in technology that help those who have disabilities and who
are unable to complete the task with normal functioning. Two examples of these devices are hearing
aids and wheelchairs. Both devices aid the person to do normal functions, such as listening and
walking. Both of these help students with disabilities learn and move around like other students.

5. Describe how captioning adds to accessibility to YouTube videos and why it is important.

Captioning adds to accessibility to YouTube videos because you are able to read the text instead of
just listening. This is important because students that are deaf are able to follow along on the
YouTube video, instead of not being able to. This has a huge impact on the experience of the deaf or
hard of hearing user.

6. Describe what an alt tag is and how it adds accessibility to web pages and Microsoft Office
documents.

An alt tag is also short for alternative text, which are used within an HTML code to describe the
images appearance and function on a page. It adds to accessibility on web pages and Microsoft
Office documents because those who are hard of sight or blind, will now be able to be read alt
attributes about the photo so that they are able to know what the image is.
