AH Building State Polytechnic of Malang, Final Report of the Electrical Engineering Program,

The burden of non-linear loads cause huge harmonics on the 3rd floor in AH building, State Polytechnic of
Malang. We do daily measurement during the week at the AH building, State Polytechnic of Malang
showed the total of the 3rd harmonic flux is at 37.20% so it does not fit the standards permitted by IEC
61000-3-4 which is 21.6%. Basic filter design is aimed at harmonics flux arising during the full load on the
3rd floor is 21.24% while the harmonic voltage is 3.35%.

With such a large presence of harmonics, so we are trying to design a passive filter which can reduce the
3rd harmonic effectively. Type of passive filter is designed low pass passive filter. This passive filter design
uses a series inductor and a parallel capacitor which are installed on the system.

From the passive filter test results that have been designed, 3rd harmonics tend to decrease. Before filtration,
the 3rd harmonic flux is 21.24%, and after filtration the 3rd harmonic flux drops to 14.96%. In addition to
the 3rd harmonic voltage also decreased, from 3.35% to 2.52%.
