“You know, when we changed the music I didn’t really know how the kids were

it surprised me to see there were probably still thirty kids still up on the floor that
were dancing to Frank Sinatra… I was just really proud of the kids for doing that.”
Despite the unity, dances will no longer be the same. They are going to change; how
they will is still in question. “It was worse than it’s ever been. This is my ninth year

Our Fear The Real Me
By Kelsey Drotning By Yasmin Abubakar
I see him. Do you see me?
Sitting by himself in the cafeteria Do you see the real me?
He looks lonely
I have always believed no one should feel alone Do you see the girl who loves to sing
Maybe he would like to sit at our table And dance the night away
I ask my friends The girl who reads almost anything Please?
And watch as they shake their heads And loves to sleep all day By Kayla Maletich
Ashamed, I turn away. Do you see the girl who laughs out loud When I look at you,
You look at me. At silly little thoughts Please do not just see
With my books in one hand The girl who everyday is wowed The imperfections on my face,
Hurdling spikes in the other By all the things she’s taught And the sweat on my palms.
I look at you. Or do you just see what’s in front of your face When I look at you,
Carrying your violin and drawing pad And none of what’s inside Please try to see
Would you believe that some days, Do you just see the hair, the skin, the race The understandings in my eyes,
I hold those things too? The things I cannot hide And the kindness in my smile.
Cliques. Don’t just judge the visible me When I talk to you,
We all know them And leave all the rest behind Please do not just hear
Even if we deny it Look for what you cannot see My nervous stutters and stammers,
But where do I fit in? And tell me what you find And awkward pauses.
Do any of these people really fit where we put them?
You. Me. He. She. They. Them. When I talk to you,
We are not as different as we pretend Please try to hear
Our beliefs, opinions, experiences vary That I too have a voice,
But our fear is the same And an opinion all my own.
We fear standing out Please do not just write me off as
But we fear being forgotten A loser, a freak, a wannabe, or a nerd,
We crave that sense of belonging Rather, give me the opportunity
The knowledge of our place To show you who I am.
I don’t think we want categories And please remember
But categories are what we create No two people are the same,
To form a definition of ourselves And that it’s okay for some to be
A boundary to keep us safe different than you.
I choose to be me.
The edges of my definition are blurred
Tomorrow I will ask that boy to sit at our table
I will not live by the standards put in place by my
peers
I am not alone.
I simply choose to live the truth.

Nunca me digas adios. Por que sin tus
bellas palabras y dulce sonrisa no sé que hiciera. Espero que tú te sientas lo mismo
por mi.
Te amo mi amor. Dul
