Rules of Building Vocabulary: How to Improve English vocabulary rapidly

English language plays important role in career development. English vocabulary is really vast,
with the passage of time new words evolve from the existing vocabulary words so it is very difficult
to learn whole English vocabulary. But there are some really very easy and effective ways to
improve English vocabulary rapidly and those ways or rules are as follows

1. It is well known about English language that it is very sophisticated language although very
easy to learn but very complex also to memorize its vocabulary. It is like Use it or lose it
which means English language needs practice without it vocabulary development is not
possible and there is also a threat to forget soon if we dont practice the learnt vocabulary
words on daily basis in real life. So keep practicing the newly learnt words in real life to be
good at vocabulary.

2. Remember the formula to learn English vocabulary that is GRASP-PT. It stands for the
following:
i. G = Try to learn vocabulary in group of words so that you dont have to focus on each
word individually. It would help in improvement rapidly and also saves time. You can
learn lots of words in no time in this way.

ii. R = Always remember the root of word. English words are made of three parts that are
prefix, root and suffix. For example the word Ex-sanguin-ation which means death due
to blood loss. A person who dies in a road accident due to excessive blood loss and deep
injuries his death is known as ex-sanguination In this word Ex is a prefix which means
out, sanguine is a root word which means related to blood and the last one is suffix (tion)
and the word ex-sanguination is a noun. Thats how English vocabulary words are made
of. So always remember the root of the word.

iii. A = It means associate the words with pictures (examples). It helps to memorize. Just
like for example the word paradigm which means an ideal or role model Associate it
with picture to memorize it like M K GANDI was a paradigm of virtue We associated
the word paradigm with our beloved nations father M K GANDI because he was really
a role model of virtue. So in this way association helps to memorize the complex
vocabulary words.

iv. S = Always make sentences to memorize and to understand the meaning of vocabulary
words.

v. P = It means remember parts of speech, without knowing parts of speech we can never
make use of English in right way and parts of speech are noun, pronoun, verb, adverb,
adjective, preposition, conjunction, interjection. Remember the difference b/w different
parts of speech if you want to speak correct English language.

vi. P = it stands for prefix/suffix. English words are made of three parts that are prefix, root
and suffix and it helps in quick learning and improvement. So learn and memorize
prefix/suffix to learn vocabulary quickly

vii. T = T stands for tone of words. English words have positive and negative tone like brave
and brazen are two words which means very courageous but brave has positive tone
and brazen has negative tone. Brazen means excessive braze to the extent of being
 foolish just like cruel bravery. So try to differentiate words according to their tone. It also
helps to look for meanings and develops understanding.

3. Always look for synonyms as well as antonyms of a word to be familiar with it completely
like Abusive means the one who is bad or uses bad language its synonyms can be filthy, slur,
scum of the earth, vulgar etc which means the person who is extremely bad and makes use
of unethical language antonyms can be polite, civilized, well mannered, suave etc which is
exactly opposite that means a person who behaves well while talking to others who is
polished by good manners.

4. Take 2 or 3 words on daily basis and also look for their synonyms and antonyms and try to
memorize them. Dont be hurry because vocabulary development needs time and effort. If
you want to become erudite in English language then try to focus on few words only at daily
basis, look for similar group words and memorize them then try to repeat them again and
again, use it in reality, make sentences and associate them with pictures to build
understanding. It will help you a lot.

5. Make a list of the words you want to learn and look for their meaning, synonyms, antonyms,
root, prefix and suffix. You must know the meaning of the word in regional language in order
to understand the word completely. Prefix, suffix and root play important role in building
vocabulary if you learn about them well then you will surely be able to learn vocabulary very
rapidly.

6. Tenses play important role to make English sentences. Learn tenses like present, past and
future to make correct use of English language. Learn pair of words which are words of
similar pronunciation with different meanings like accept and except etc. Pair of words helps
to understand where to use the right word according to English sentence context

So you can make excellent use of English language and improve our vocabulary if you follow these
few simple rules of vocabulary development. Remember that English is very through language.
New words of English evolve from the existing one with the passage of time so it is difficult to
memorize the vast English vocabulary. So be patient and learn slowly to improve rapidly.
