Schedule A Campus Visit
One of the best ways to explore a campus
is by visiting it in person. It allows you to
get a vibe for the atmosphere on campus,
as well as the size of the student body.
More importantly you have the opportunity to
visit with students and faculty, get a tour,
and ask important questions. Take advan-
tage of STARS Student Support Services
trips to ESU, KU, KSU, PSU, WSU, WU,
and others throughout the school year.

Visit With Your Advisor
As early as possible schedule a time to meet with your
advisor and/or the STARS SSS Transfer/Career Advi-
sor to discuss your academic goals. By doing so you
can ensure you are taking courses that will transfer to
your next college. There are also admissions materials
and information sheets available for Kansas Regents
Universities available in the CAVE.

File Your FAFSA, EARLY
The importance of applying for your FAFSA as soon as
possible after Jan. 1 cannot be stressed enough. You
can do so electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The
priority deadline for FAFSA materials to be received is
April 1, but many schools bump their priority date up
to February or March 1—so be sure to check!
Also be knowledgeable of scholarship deadlines at your
transfer institution. Being timely in your application
will allow your materials first consideration while funds
still remain.

Contact An Admissions Representative
Once you’ve narrowed down your choices to
a few select schools, get in contact with your
area Admissions Representative. Their job is
to answer your tough questions about admis-
sion requirements, key deadlines, scholarship
information, housing, and student life. Use
them! By contacting them or submitting your
contact information on their database, you will
then begin to receive important information in
the mail and notification of upcoming recruit-
ment events in your area.
Apply For Admission
Research the application process for the school you
wish to attend. Mark down important deadlines in
your planner...and MEET THEM. Certain pro-
grams/majors may also require additional materials to
be submitted, and may go by a different deadline than
the college as well.
Send Transcripts
Also prepare to have transcripts from all previous col-
leges sent to your transfer school. If you are transfer-
ring with less than 24 college credits, you may also
need to send high school transcripts and/or ACT/SAT
scores. After your final grades are posted, request an-
other transcript be sent to your transfer school so that
they have your latest classes/grades listed in their sys-
tem.

Once you are there…
You are likely to experience larger class sizes and a
higher faculty/student ratio when you arrive. Counter
these challenges by sitting in the front of class, intro-
ducing yourself to instructors and peers, and working
closely with the advisor in your department. Also—
look for opportunities to get involved, join clubs,
honor societies, and support services like TRIO SSS!
