A Rough Draft On
SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign started by the Government of India to keep the streets,
roads and infrastructure of the country's cities and towns and its rural areas clean. The
mission is bifurcated into sub-missions as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Gramin) under Ministry
of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Urban) under Ministry of
Housing and Urban Affairs. It includes ambassadors and activities such as a run, National
real-time monitoring and updates from NGOs.
The campaign was officially launched on 2nd October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi by Prime
Minister Shri Narendra Modi. It is India's largest ever cleanliness drive with 3 million
government employees, especially school and college students from all parts of India
participating in the campaign.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is to reduce or eliminate open defecation through
the construction of individual, cluster and community toilets. The Swachh Bharat Mission
will also make an initiative of establishing an accountable mechanism of monitoring latrine
use. The government is aiming to achieve an Open-Defecation Free (ODF) India by 2nd
October 2019, the 150th anniversary of the birth of great Mahatma Gandhi by constructing
12 million toilets in rural India at a projected cost of 1.96 Lakh Crores.
HYPOTHESIS
The Researcher believes that it's a challenge because it's not just about cleaning up the streets,
it's about bringing in a paradigm shift in people's mentality and educate them about the need
for cleanliness. Though this hypothesis sound pretty good but let us go practical. No doubt
that our Prime Minister's plan is great but he has overlooked the fact that we are Indians who
have the supreme power of adjusting anywhere. Imagine we Indians who cannot even resist
ourselves from throwing garbage on the roadside are all of a sudden made to pledge that we
will neither pollute nor let pollute others. Then, we are also made to pledge that we would
impart 2 hours a week in dust cleaning. Leave about others, I can bet that even cabinet
ministers would have broken their promise. If in front of the media cameras their drama lasts
for 2-3 minutes what the hell they would do outside that. Probably this 2 hour scheme is
undigestable after all indians have the highest work hours per week ratio.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The researcher has used Doctrinal Method of research to complete the project which involves
