General Assembly/Arrangement Drawing (GA)

Shows the orientation and relative position of a number of related parts. Parts are labelled with balloons and a
few overall dimensions are added to allow assembly and/or fitting to another assemblies. A parts list is included
Detailed Parts / Manufacturing Drawing

Shows all the details and information required to manufacture the part. Normally on part per drawing. Includes
dimensional and geometric tolerances. All features are dimensioned
Scale 1:1 or 2:1 on
an A3 sheet

22
This exercise is optional

Produce three orthogonal views scale 1:1 or 2:1 on an A3 sheet. Plan your drawing. No hidden detail required
Exercise 8 Brush Holder
A pictorial view of a brush holder for an electric motor is shown below. Produce a fully dimensioned drawing of the
component including a plan view, and end view from B and a sectional elevation along X-X (three views in total). You
should produce a plan/sketch before starting. Drawings should include a title block containing Name, title, Scale,
Date and the third angle projection symbol. Scale 1:1 is recommended. Whilst drawing this part, consider how much
you think the parts would cost each for just one, or each for 100k. Note, there is a need to blend the shape where the
R16 rad meets the 40mm wide area.
Exercise 9 Tolerancing
The Drawing below shows a pulley on a shaft carried in two plain bearings. Taking dimensions scaled from the drawing below, make two fully dimensioned
manufacturing drawings. One for the shaft, and one for ONE bearing (they may be on the same sheet of paper. The fit between the Bearing and the Shaft is
a running fit of H8/f7. The Pulley is a H7/k6 fit on the Shaft, and the Bearing is also a H7/k6 fit in the housing.
Consider the ENDFLOAT of the Shaft in between the bearings.
If A= 13 +0.04/-0.04; B=60 +0.06/-0.06 and W = 10 +0/-0.05 what dimension should the length of the shaft shoulder be to achieve and endfloat of Max 0.5, Min
0.1????
You are required to produce an assembly drawing of this chain splitter.

You will need to do three views a plan, a view from A, and a sectional view from B.
Please produce a sketch before starting.
Suggested scale is 2:1 on A3 paper.
As is it an assembly drawing you will need to include a parts list and some overall dimensions (a maximum of
three is recommended).
You will find it helpful to draw the splitter with the screw thread sticking out of both sides of the body.
Remember that round components arent sectioned and so you will need a local section of the Press Shaft so
that you can see the position of the Rotating Press Point. Note the latter is inserted with the chamfered end
facing outwards

Individual part drawings are given on the reverse of this sheet

Assembly tolerance exercise: Parts C002 and C004 are a H7/k6 fit into part C001. Part C003 is a H7/p6 interference
into part C005

As a side activity, which is independent of the drawing exercise, you are required to calculate the diameters of all
these toleranced fits. Please indicate the tolerance dimensions IN A TABLE ON THE REVERSE OF YOUR DRAWING. Do
not add the dimensions to your main drawing!
