1. As per recently revised UN World Economic Situation and Prospects as of mid-2017 report, Indias GDP growth forecast for
2017 ___7.3%.
Note:
The revised report projected that India will achieve an impressive 7.9% GDP growth in fiscal 2018.
2. Who has conducted the first Samavesh meeting of the National Steering Group and other knowledge partners ___NITI Aayog.
Note:
The meeting was attended by representatives of four States- Kerala, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
3. The GST Council has finalised a 4-slab service tax structure at the rates of ___ 5, 12, 18 and 28%.
Note:
GST regime is scheduled to be implemented from July 1. In the next GST Council meeting, tax rates on gold and other
precious metals will be taken up for discussion.
4. HDFC Life has entered into a banc assurance tie-up with a bank to distribute its individual life insurance products to the private
lenders customers ____Catholic Syrian Bank.
Note:
Now, HDFC Life will offer its leading range of individual life insurance, health, and pension products to the Catholic
Syrian Banks customer over a period of time.
5. According to the latest Economic Outlook Survey of FICCI, Indias GDP forecast for FY 18 ___7.4%.
6. Who has launched Operation Clean Money Portal to keep a tab on dishonest citizens hiding their income from the authorities
and government______ Mr. Arun Jaitley.
Note:
The Portal will provide comprehensive information at one place consisting of step by step guides, frequently asked
questions (FAQ), quick reference guides and training toolkits related to verification process.
The portal has been designed by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to identify those who have made large
deposits or purchases and which are not in line with declared income as a follow-up to Operation Clean Money.
7. According to 2017 Brand Finance India 100 report, the most valuable brand in India ___ Tata Group.
Note:
Tata Group is the most valuable brand in India with an estimated brand value of USD 13.1 billion.
Airtel has acquired 2nd position followed by LIC, Infosys, SBI and Reliance Industries Ltd.
8. The Paytm bank has appointed CEO of Paytm Payments Bank ___Renu Satti.
Note:
Currently, Satti is the executive and vice'-president of business at Paytm.
Paytm received the final licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for its payments bank entity.
9. According to latest Lancet report Global Burden of Disease (GBD), Indias rank in the 2017 Healthcare Access and Quality Index
(HAQI) _____154th.

10. Softbank has made its biggest investment (Rs 9,000 crore) in an Indian digital enterprise in mobile payments provider __Paytm.

New Appointments

1. Who has been appointed as Prime Minister of France ___Edouard Philippe.


Note:
French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Edouard Philippe as the new Prime Minister of France.

Philippe has served as a member of the National Assembly representing the 7th constituency of Seine-Maritime since
2012 and mayor of Le Havre and president of the agglomeration community of Le Havre since 2010.
2. Who has been appointed as new UNFCCC Deputy Executive Secretary___ Ovais Sarmad.
Note:
The appointment has been made after consultation with the Conference of Parties through its Bureau.
He will succeed Richard Kinley of Canada.
3. The union minister has given the additional charge of Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change___ Harsh Vardhan.
Note:
Now, Mr. Harsh Vardhan (MP of Chandni Chowk) is in the charge of the environment ministry along with the two
ministries of Science & Technology as well as that of Earth Sciences.
4. President Pranab Mukherjee has approved the appointment of two ministers to the cabinet of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal ____Rajendar Pal Gautam and Kailash Gehlot.
Note:
As per the rules, the Delhi government has to take permission of the Centre before carrying out any expansion in its
Cabinet.
Rajendar Pal Gautam (MLA of Seemapuri): Tourism, Art and Culture, Water, Social welfare, SC/ST, Gurudwara
Elections, Languages.
Kailash Gahlot (MLA of Najafgarh): Transport, IT, Administrative Reform, Law, and Justice.

Obituaries

1. The renowned Mexican journalist and founder of Rodoce passed away ___Javier Valdez.
Note:
Valdez was a nationally and internationally-recognised journalist who authored several books on the drug trade.
He was known for his reporting on drug trafficking and organized crime.
2. Anil Madhav Dave, who passed away recently, was the union minister of ___Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
Note:
He was a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2009.
Dave joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and worked for conservation of the Narmada River.
3. Recently, former Puducherry Chief Minister has passed away ___S Ramassamy.
4. The veteran actress of film and TV has passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra___ Reema Lagoo.
Note:
She was started her career as a Marathi stage artist in 1970s.
Reema Lagoo played the mothers role opposite some of the biggest stars in the industry like Salman Khan (Maine Pyar
Kiya), Akshay Kumar (Gumrah), Sridevi (Jai Kishen), Madhuri Dixit (Hum Aapke Hain Kaun) and Shah Rukh Khan (Kal Ho
Na Ho).

1. The city hosted the 2nd meeting of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) ___New Delhi.
Note:
The 2nd meeting of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) has been inaugurated by Union Home
minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
The theme was Disaster Risk Reduction for Sustainable Development: Making India Resilient by 2030.
2. The Indian Institute of Technology has collaborated with the British Geological Survey to turn Varanasi into a smart city ___IIT
Kharagpur.
3. Who has successfully created the Indias first smart grid project to generate power from renewable sources of energy ___The
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST).

Note:
The smart grid will be synchronised to generate power from solar, wind and vegetable waste resources, depending on
the weather conditions and availability of waste products
4. Who has launched a new global campaign Brave to fight against what it said was a growing wave of attacks against those
defending human rights____ Amnesty International (AI).
Note:
The new Brave campaign calls on states to recognize the legitimate work of those working to stand up for the inherent
dignity and equal rights of all people, and to ensure their freedom and safety under the United Nations declaration
adopted in 1998.
5. Indias rank in the 2017 World Banks Power accessibility list ___26th.
6. India has signed five agreements for cooperation in different areas including agriculture cooperation, health sector, Information
Technology & Electronics___ Palestine.
Note:
The Agreements are exchanged after delegation-level talks between PM Narendra Modi and Palestine President
Mahmoud Abbas at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
7. The Ministries of Shipping and Rural Development has signed an MoU on a project in collaboration with Deen Dayal Upadhyay-
Gramin Kaushalya Yojna (DDU- GKY) ____ Sagarmala project.
Note:
DDU-GKY is under implementation in 28 states and has over 654 training centres in 522 projects in partnership with
training partners.
So far, 4.54 lakh persons have been given skill training and of them 2.31 lakh got employed.
8. Indias first Aquatic Rainbow Technology Park (ARTP) will be set up in the city___ Chennai.
Note:
The park will have an ultra-modern exclusive facility for ornamental fish equipped with multi-species hatchery and live
feed culture units.
The facility is being developed by Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI), Ponneri in Tamil Nadu.
9. Who has received the first two ultralight howitzers (ULH) from the US, as part of an order for 145 long-range guns ___ Indian
Army.
Note:
The M-777 A-2 ultra-light howitzers(ULH) having a maximum range of 30-kms were being taken to Pokhran firing range
in Rajasthan for test firing.
25 guns will come in a fly-away condition and rest will be assembled in India by the BAE Systems in partnership with
Mahindra Defence.
10. The city to host the 2017 annual convention of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group___ Gandhinagar.
11. The Union Cabinet chaired has given its approval for construction of how many units of Indias indigenous Pressurized Heavy
Water Reactors (PHWR)___ 10 units.
Note:
These 10 PHWR project will result in a significant augmentation of nuclear power generation capacity.
Now, the total installed capacity of the Plants will be 7000 MW.
12. The government has expedited process of rural electrification and provide every citizen affordable, adequate electricity by

Note:
Smart power meters will be installed soon in the houses to enable 100% smart metering.
13. Who has banned open defecation and dumping of waste on the floodplains of the Yamuna___ The National Green Tribunal
(NGT).
Note:
An environment compensation of Rs. 5,000 should be paid by those who violated the order.

NGT also constituted a committee headed by Delhi Jal Board CEO to oversee the execution of work pertaining to
cleaning of the river.
14. The committee has recommended several measures for de-siltation of River Ganga ___ Madhav Chitale committee.

The committee suggested good agricultural practices, river bank anti-erosion works and avoiding encroachment of flood
plain and reclamation of adjoining lakes along the river.
15. The 2017 HADR exercise Karavali Karunya has started by Indian Navy in the state ___Karnataka.

The HADR exercise involves both professional exchange and actual disaster response mechanisms is set on a Tsunami

States News

1. In the Large States category, the state secured first rank in the Public Affairs Index (PAI)- 2017 ___ Kerala.
Note:
The PAI Rankings are based on the survey, carried out based on 10 themes, 26 focus subjects and 82 indicators.
2. In the Small States category, the state secured first rank in the Public Affairs Index (PAI)- 2017___ Himachal Pradesh.

The PAI Rankings are based on the survey, carried out based on 10 themes, 26 focus subjects and 82 indicators.
3. The state government has constituted a Maa committee to check mid-day meal quality in schools ___ Uttar Pradesh.
Note:
It will be a committee of six mothers whose students are studying in that school. They check the cleanliness in kitchen,
quality of food being served to children.
4. The state govt. has launched e-textbook portal for school students___ Haryana.
Note:
Students can download school books instantly from the e-textbook portal of the Haryana School Education Board
(HSEB).
As of now, 26 textbooks of classes IX to XII have been uploaded on the portal and these can be easily converted into
audio files.
5. The state govt. will launch a water grid project on a fast track to provide safe drinking water in areas vulnerable to kidney
disorders_____ Andhra Pradesh govt.
Note:
The project aims to install water plants and supply safe water to the needy.
People facing drinking water problem in villages may complain to the call centre by dialling the toll-free number (1800
425 1899).
The call centre will solve the drinking water scarcity immediately.
6. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus stand has been equipped with air-conditioning facility ____ Ring Road at Lajpat
Nagar.
Note:
The AC has been installed by a Japanese multinational air conditioner manufacturing company in cooperation with a
private agency which has the advertisement right on DTC's bus stands.
7. The state govt. has agreed to release 3 TMC of water to Karnataka to mitigate the severe drinking water problem faced in the
state___ Maharashtra govt.
Note:
Both the states have also decided to implement inter-state Doodh ganga irrigation project for which Karnataka has paid
Rs. 36 crore in advance.
This will help rain dependent farmers hit by drought in north Karnataka to carry out agriculture.

1. A state of emergency has been declared in the Yemens capital due to a deadly outbreak of cholera ____Sanaa.

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the disease killed at least 115 people and left more than
8,000 others infected across the country.
Now, the World Health Organization (WHO) classifies Yemen as one of the worst humanitarian emergencies in the
world.

The RECAI ranks 40 markets on the attractiveness of their renewable energy investment and deployment opportunities,
based on a number of macro, energy market and technology-specific indicators.
4. The 2017 bilateral maritime exercise SIMBEX-17 has been started between India and ___ Singapore.
Note:
SIMBEX is an acronym for Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercises.
5. The two countries have started first ever passenger ferry service to develop links and boost economic cooperation despite
United Nations sanctions____ North Korea and Russia.
Note:
Ferry service linking the two countries has been launched with North Korean passenger ferry docking in Russia's port
city of Vladivostok.
The vessel will sail once a week to the port city and will carry tourists and cargo.

Note:

1. IIT-Hyderabad professor bags 2017 INSA Young Scientist award ___Aravind Kumar Rengan.
Note:
He has been awarded for devising a novel way of nano delivery using liposomes and gold nanoparticles which is useful
for both imaging and therapeutics.
He will receive the award in Dec 2017.
The INSA Young Scientist Medal award carries a bronze medal and Rs25,000 cash prize.

4. Indian scientist has won the 2017 Dan David prize in the Future category___ Shrinivas Kulkarni.
Note:
Indian scientist Shrinivas Kulkarni has won the prestigious Dan David prize (Future category) for his contribution in the
field of astronomy.
Dan David prizes are given every year in the categories of Past, Present and Future to people around the world who
have made outstanding contributions to humanity in the sciences, humanities, or through their work in civil society.
5. Indian-American student has won the 2017 National Geographic Bee contest ___Pranay Varada.
Note:
Pranay Varada has won the prestigious USD 50,000 National Geographic Bee competition for year 2017.
6. Two Indian activists have won the annual Whitley Awards ('Green Oscars) for their works in the field of animal and bird
conservation in India____ Dr. Purnima Devi Barman and Sanjay Gubbi.
Note:
Sanjay Gubbi, won the award for his work to protect Karnataka's tiger corridors.
Purnima has been selected for her relentless efforts and campaigns for the conservation of the Greater Adjutant Stork
(Haargila) in Assam.

3. The worlds first cricket pair (mens or womans) to forge a 300 runs opening-wicket partnership in One-Day Internationals
(ODIs) cricket ___ Deepti Sharma & Poonam Raut.
Note:
They scored 320 runs in 45.3 overs.
Earlier, the best partnership for the first wicket in mens cricket was 286 runs scored by Sri Lankas Upul Tharanga and
Sanath Jayasuriya in 2006 (against England).
Deepti Sharmas 188 runs is now the second highest score in womens one-day international (ODI) only behind Belinda
Clarks (Australia) unbeaten 229 in 1997 (against Denmark).
4. First Indian driver to win the race in the GP3 Series __Arjun Maini.
Note:
Arjun Maini has become the first Indian driver to win his first race in the GP3 series at the Circuit de Catalunya in
Barcelona, Spain.
5. Japanese tennis player Mitsuhashi gets life ban for match-fixing ____ Junn Mitsuhashi.
Note:
He has also been fined USD 50,000 after being found to have made corrupt approaches to other players and to have
placed bets on matches.
6. Who has won the All India Open Rapid FIDE Rating Chess Tournament at the Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra, Kolkata, West
Bengal___ Grand Master R R Laxman.
Note:
Laxman finished on top in the tournament with 9.5 points and Mitrabha Guha (8.5 points) to finish second.

8. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has hiked the prize money of upcoming Champions Trophy 2017 (8th edition) carries a

The winner of the tournament will get a cheque of USD 2.2 million.
The runner-up of the tournament will get a cheque of USD 1.1 million, while the other two semi-finalists will get USD
450000 each.
Teams finishing third in each group will take home USD 90000 each, while the teams finishing last in each group will get
USD 60000 each.
The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be held in England and Wales between 1st-18th June 2017.
