 1.MBR PROCESS DESCRIPTION

The effluent after the biological treatment is taken to the Membrane Bio Reactor tank (Tank in
customers scope). The Oltremare submerged MBR Membranes have permanent hydrophilic
properties and have a cassette structure. The membrane to have numerous advantages over standard
membranes like effective CIP of membranes.

The filtration takes place by means of suction of pump which pumps the product water into the
product water tank, a part of this treated water is taken into a CIP Tank. The water in this tank is
used for backwash of the membranes. Backwash is done to remove impurities from the surface of
the membrane.

Oltremare membrane does the filtration of wastewater for 9 minutes then standstills for 1 minute.
The backwash is done for 15 minutes every 4 hours and is done by either gravity from a overhead
CIP Tank or by a recirculation pump. The product water from the tank flows back into the
membranes removing and dislodging all adulterants from the membrane.

Oltremare Hollow Fibre Membranes are made with unique and proprietary processes. These
membranes are reinforced for strength and to avoid breakages. Oltremare Membranes have shown
best results and longer life when compared to other membranes of the same type. These membranes
are mounted on a structural frame *, complete with required air diffusers for air scouring.
