Role Description and key responsibilities-

Description
This role is supposed to educate students about the various aspects of
mathematics and develop critical thinking and analytical abilities of the
students who he/she is supposed to teach.
Also he/she is supposed to educate students about the applicability of
mathematics in various aspects
Key Responsibilities
Create a lesson plan about how he/she is going to carry out the teaching
Teach the mathematical concepts to students and make them understand
Make the students solve problems both inside classroom and at home
Clarify doubts of students
Administer quizzes and tests to keep track of performance of students and
improve the lesson plan accordingly
To communicate about the performance to the principal as well as their
parents
To attend monthly review meetings and collect feedback from students to
improve teaching
Key Competencies for role-
1. Planning and Organizing
a. Reason
i. This is critical because an effective lesson planning and designing will
meet students and need and standards provided by Board of education
ii. It will take care of all the aspects from academic to applicability
iii. It will not only help in completing the course in time but also provide
sufficient time for revision
b. Behavioural Indicators
i. Develops a structured lesson plan with clear cut timeline
ii. Takes care of making students understand, practice and mastering the
standards
iii. Provides scope for sufficient revision
2. Effective communication
a. Reason
i. The teacher might be full of knowledge and problem solving skills but
if he/she is not able to deliver the concepts efficiently then it is not
beneficial for students.
ii. Clear communication between students, principals and parents of the
students about their performance is very critical to the role
b. Behavioural Indicators
i. Delivers the concepts in simple and understandable manner
ii. Gives the students time to process information and ask questions.
iii. Makes use of appropriate communication medium for students, parents
and principal

3. Mastery in Subject Matter


a. Reason
i. This will help the students clarify the students doubts better because
of in depth knowledge
ii. It plays an important role in developing better educational materials for
the students
b. Behavioural Indicators
i. States concepts with theoretical base and derivations
ii. Clarifies all the relevant doubts raised by students
iii. Gives detailed answers citing relevant sources
4. Identifying needs
a. Reason
i. Even after following a comprehensive lesson plan, it doesnt work out
for all the students, so it is important to keep track of performance on a
regular basis by administering quizzes and tests, collecting feedbacks
so that its possible to improve the performance of the needed ones.
b. Behavioural Indicators
i. Takes small quizzes after each chapter, monthly tests, annual tests
ii. Asks the problems of the students what they are facing
iii. Collects feedback on a regular basis to improve teaching
5. Creating a learning environment
a. Reason
i. This is essential in terms of creating a conducive environment where
students would be able to learn effectively without any hesitation.
ii. As teachers performance also demands input from students, it would
only be possible by incorporating learning attitude in students.
b. Behavioural Indicators
i. Enforces rules to make the students follow discipline e.g. punishes the
students who havent done homework
ii. Solves conflicts in class in a tactful manner
iii. Reduces disturbances and noise levels in the class
iv. Seeks different points of view and leverages diverse perspectives for
better problem solving
6. Continuous-Learning
a. Reason
i. A differentiator between a good and great teacher is the constant
learning attitude. One who learns continuously and keeps oneself
updated will be able to educate the students better
b. Behavioural Indicators
i. Attends mathematics seminars, conferences on frequent basis
ii. Keeps the course outline updated according to the needs by Board of
Education
iii. Takes note of new points raised by students
