Ashley Huber, Missionary to Croatia
Every church on the East TN District is
assigned a missionary. Our responsibility is
to pray for our missionary, send letters and
care packages, encourage and make sure
that our missionary knows that people care
about him/her and their ministry. We have Ashley Huber for one more
year as our assigned missionary. This past summer, our very own
Bailee Hastings had the opportunity to go to Croatia on a summer
mission trip. She experienced the work in Croatia first hand and is
going to share this with us on Sunday, October 29th in the morning
worship service. Plan now to come and hear about the work in Croatia
and our missionary, Ashley Huber.

Did you know that there were several acts of heroism at the Las Vegas
shootings? Mike McGarry, who survived, laid on top of his children when the shots
rang out. "They're 20, I'm 53. I lived a good life," he said. Similarly, Carly Krieger
shielded her young daughter by lying her on the ground and getting on top of her. Kurt
Fowler, a firefighter from Arizona, was shot in the leg when shielding his wife and has
needed surgery. He will not be able to return to work for months. And 29-year-old
Sonny Melton, of Tennessee, was fatally shot while helping his wife, Heather. "He
grabbed me and started running when I felt him get shot in the back," she told WMV-
TV in Nashville. Mike Cronk said that his friend, Rob, next to him was shot, and they
stayed together while Rob put fingers in his own wound to stem the bleeding. Robert
Hayes, a firefighter in Los Angeles, got his wife and friends out of the venue. Todd
Blyleven, a former minor league baseball player, said that once his group of friends
were safe, he went back inside to try and help others get out. He joined a "group of
volunteers" and may have helped remove 30 or 40 people from the gunfire. Lindsay
Lee, a tattoo artist, was one of many who used her truck as an ambulance. Taylor
Winston, a Marine veteran, drove more than two dozen victims to the hospital. In the
early hours of Monday morning hundreds of people gave blood.
