"Angel of Harlem"

---------------
chords by: Sergio Lucero, slucero@cipres.cec.uchile.cl

C F
It was a cold and wet December day
C F
When we touched down at JFK
C F
Snow was melting on the ground
C F C F
On BLS I heard the sound (of an Angel)

C F
New York like a Christmas tree
C F C F
I said tonight this city belongs to me (Angel)

F G F
Soul love this love won't let me go
G C F
So long...Angel of Harlem

Birdland on 53, the street sounds like a symphony

We got John Coltrane and a love supreme
Miles and she has to be an Angel

Lady Day got diamond eyes

She sees the truth behind the lies (Angel)

Soul love this love won't let me go

So long...Angel of Harlem

Bridge:
Am G F Am G F
ooh ooh ooh ooh she sings with heart, heart and soul

Blue light on the avenue

God knows they got to you
An empty glass, the lady sings
Eyes swollen like a bee sting
Blinded you lost your way
On the side streets and the alleyways
Like a star exploding in the night
Filling up the city with broad daylight
An Angel in Devil's shoes
Salvation in the blues
You never looked like an Angel
So long...Angel of Harlem

Angel, Angel of Harlem (4 times and fade)

"EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!"

***in addition to other C-F-G versions of this song***

When I compared the tabs posted here to what was actually played on the ZOO
TV tour,
I noticed a difference in the chorus. Evently it doesnt matter,
but just for the sake of it @:)
Instead of playing F and then changing into an "ordinary" G,
they keep the F chord formation and slide it two bars up the neck,
forming a G5.
They also throw in an Fsus4 and a Cbmaj7,
its ok - no need to learn how to spell it, just add the pinky.
And as for most live performances by U2, tune down half a tone,
(does anyone know why they do that?).
Looks kinda like this:

/ slide up
\ slide down

F /G-Cbmaj7-G \F-Fsus4-F
Soul lo_____ve. This love wont let me go.

F /G C
So lo_______ng. Angel of Harlem.

The Cbmaj7, Fsus4 are only strummed for half a beat, i.e. 1/8

F Fsus4 (just add the pinky to what youre already holding

on to)

e|--1------ --1------
b|--1------ --1------
g|----2---- -----3---
d|------3-- -----3---
a|--------- ---------
E|--------- ---------

G Cbmaj7 (like the Fsus4 but this time put your pinky on
the b-string)

e|--3------ --3------
b|--3------ ------5--
g|----4---- ----4----
d|------5-- ------5--
a|--------- ---------
E|--------- ---------

e|---------
b|--1------
g|---------
d|----2----
a|------3--
E|---------

"Lets cut this folk crap. I think its time to rock!"

I think I found something that was missed by most in tablature and

playing this song "Angel of Harlem". In the file for this song on the
guitar archive, I have noticed that it says C C C F F F for the entire song
as "the riff". If you listen closely to the end of the song, you can hear
two guitars, one playing C C C F F F and the other playing C C C G G F
higher up on the fret-board. Now, I play this song on acoustic guitar with
a capo on third, so here is how I play that:

frets relative to capo

E|-0-------0---X-X-X-X-3---3---2-|
B|-2-------2---X-X-X-X-4---4---3-|
G|-2-------2---X-X-X-X-3---3---2-|
D|-2-------2---X-X-X-X-----------|
A|-0-------0---------------------|
E|-0-------0---------------------|
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

Also, here is a suggestion of another way I tried playing this:

frets not relative to capo

E|-8-------8---X-X-X-X-10--10--8-|
B|-8-------8---X-X-X-X-12--12--10|
G|-9-------9---X-X-X-X-12--12--10|
D|-10------10--X-X-X-X-12--12--10|
A|-10------10----------10--10--8-|
E|-8-------8-----------10--10--8-|
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

Looking forward to any reply. I hope that made even a bit of sense!

Rock and Roll stops the traffic!

Hi there, I thought I'd follow up the recent additions to the Angel of
Harlem tab. This is the way I've recorded the guitar parts on my 4 track.

The basic track is:

^ downstroke
v upstroke

C F
^ ^ ^ v ^ v ^ v
e|--x--x---x-x-x--x--x--x----|
B|--5--5---x-x-10-10-10-10---|
G|--5--5---x-x-10-10-10-10---|
D|--5--5---x-x-10-10-10-10---|
A|--3--3---x-x-8--8--8--8----|
E|---------------------------| > not played or muted throughout

Where the G to F shift comes in the chorus the G is played at the 10th position:

e|--x--|
B|--12-|
G|--12-|
D|--12-|
A|--10-|
E|-----| > not played or muted throughout

When the song switches to the middle 8 of Am, G and F these should
be played at the open position, which gives the song its change of dynamics.

Then the overdubbed guitar is as Jonathan tabbed, instead of playing

the straight C to F change, the second guitar plays the chords of C, G,
F in the positions shown earlier, e.g.

C at the 3rd position

G at the 10th position and
F at the 8th position.

I think that's it, any comment etc can be e-mailed to me (Nick) at
