Vibro Replacement for Upgrading of

Yard at PTSC MC Yard

Vung Tau city, Vietnam

PTSC MC yard upgrading project aims to increase the

existing capacity for fabrication of offshore oil & gas
structures. This upgrading includes increasing bearing
capacity of the soil (for heavy crane load up to
500kPa) and to ensure stability during crane
operations.

The soil on site comprises of about 1m of well

compacted sandy gravel, followed by 4m of medium
dense silty sand and another 8m of soft marine clay.
This is underlain by firm to stiff sandy clay.

The entire foundation is founded on vibro

replacement, design and build by Keller. For a loading
of 500kPa, the settlement criterion is less than
100mm in the short term and less than 250mm in the
long term.

As part of the optimization process, two layouts were

proposed for different soil condition and requirements.
A 950T load test was carried out on a specially
designed plate for each layout to simulate the crane
track. The diagram below shows the results of the load
tests. Both layouts were able to meet the settlement
and bearing capacity requirements.

Yard in operation The project was successfully completed and the yard
is currently in operation.
