NADI CELEBRATES
FIJI DAY IN STYLE
By LUKE NACEI
For the first time since Indepen-
dence in 1970 the jetset town of Nadi
played host to Fiji Day celebration
and the Trooping of the Colors by the
Fiji Military Forces.
Fiji Day Parade commemorated
the 47 years of Fijis Independence
from Great Britain.
The Parade was unique in num-
ber of ways one of it was Nadi host-
ing it for the first time and the second
was that the audience present at the
celebration witnessed the Trooping
of Colours of the Third Battalion
Fiji Infantry Regiment or other-
wise known as the 3FIR Colours.
Trooping the colours is a ceremo-
ny performed by regimes of the Brit-
ish and Commonwealth armies. It

dependence from British colonial rule in 1970 which takes
place annually on the 10th of October.
On that date in 1874, King Seru Epenisa Cakobau ceded
Fiji to the United Kingdom. On the same date in 1970, Fiji
regained its independence.
For many reasons, it is a very important and special occa-

selves.
Some meet up with friends or family members while
some just like a quiet time at home.
It is a very happy occasion for all Fijians, wherever they
maybe.
Even Fijians living overseas in countries like New Zea-
land, Australia and the United States go all out to celebrate
this historical occasion, showing how proud they are to be
Fijians and to be called Fijians in their adopted countries.
In the National Celebration which has always taken place
at Albert Park in Suva and took place for the first time at
Prince Charles Park in Nadi this year, the nation celebrates
its unity and religious and cultural diversity.
With differences aside, may it be religious, racial, faith or
political, the people of Fiji celebrate as Fijians and children
of one land.
As the country marks its 47th Independence Anniversary,
we can surely look back and say that Fiji really has come a
long way despite its ups and downs and twist and turns.
Let us move forward and continue to grow together as
Fijians.
Let us stay united as Fijians who love our country.

Aviation Reunion Planned Chamber Plans

By ANA SOVA
The people of Nadi might soon enjoy another annual festival.
Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Dr.
Ram Raju said they were seriously looking at organising anoth-
er festival that maybe a little bigger than the Nadi Bula Festival.
For some reason or the other which I fail to understand
is why the hotels have not been contributing to the Nadi Bula
Festival. One of the reasons I was told years ago was the non
transparent accounts and issues with the previous Nadi Bula
Festival executives, Dr. Raju said.
He adds the festival is planned to pursue a lot of involvement
by the tourism community in Nadi.
It will probably be called the Nadi Tourism & hospitality Fes-
tival. We will make it an annual event, Im sure it will work, Dr.
Raju said.

The top Rewa midfielder was first called for national u17 tri-

He gave credit to the Almighty for his selection.
First of all I would like to thank the Almighty for the power
and His will to be selected in the national team.
I have been out for some time but I was not discouraged,

Waranivalu said he is ready to prove his worth if given a
chance this Saturday.

If I get a chance to play on Saturday, I will prove to the coach

Fiji FA Footballer of the year 2016 and national team mem-

also echoed similar sentiments.
Our first day at training session went quite well and were
enjoying our stay in Indonesia.
Im looking forward to the game on Saturday and if given a
