Part 2: Analyzing Motion Graphs

1. The diagram below shows a displacement- time graph

representing the motion of an object in the duration of 60s.

Determine
(a) The velocity in the first 10s
(b) The velocity from 10s to 30s
(c) The velocity in the last 30 s
(d) Its displacement at the time of 20 s and 45 s
(e) The total distance travelled
(f) Total displacement covered.
2. The diagram shows a velocity-time graph representing the
motion of a car. The car starts from rest and accelerates
uniformly for 10 s until it reaches a velocity of 20 ms. The
car maintains at this speed for 10 s and finally slows down
uniformly until it comes to rest.

(a) Determine the acceleration of the car

(i) 5s, (ii) 15s, (iii) 30s
(b) Calculate the displacement of the car
(i) When the car accelerates in the first 10 s,
(ii) When the car is moving with the constant velocity
(iii) When the car decelerates until it comes to rest
(c) What is the total displacement of the car?
(d) Calculate the average velocity throughout the whole journey.
(e) Plot an acceleration time graph
3. Diagram 5 shows a velocity-time graph of an object moving in
a straight line. Find

(a) The acceleration of the object in the first 2 seconds,

(b) The distance travelled by the object when it is moving in
constant velocity,
(c) The deceleration of the object in the time interval from t=7s to
t=11s
(d) The displacement at the final second,
(e) Sketch the corresponding acceleration-time graph for the
object
4. Diagram 6 shows the velocity graph of a particle moving in a
straight line.

(a) What is the acceleration of the particle in the first 3 seconds of

the motion?
(b) What is the deceleration of the particle after 3 seconds?
(c) What is the total distance travelled by the particle?
(d) Find the displacement of the particle with respect to its
original position after 8 s.
(e) Sketch the corresponding acceleration-time graph of the
particle.

(ii) The displacement at the last second.
