The I-Gate 4000 SBO-MB performs Abis interface optimization which includes:
Idle channel suppression (see Section 5.4.2)
Silence Removal (see 5.4.1)
HDLC flag removal
TRAU frames optimization
VAD Enhancing optimization
Extended GPRS/EDGE optimization
while maintaining the quality, reliability, and synchronization of the original (pre
optimization) traffic.
The I-Gate 4000 SBO-MB supports automatic Abis interface detection allowing
the automatic detection of user traffic, signaling, idle and HS pool channels (see
Section 5.5.6). This facilitates the operational work of the mobile operator.
The I-Gate 4000 SBO-MB supports the following ATM traffic optimization modes:
AAL mode: AAL2, AAL5, and ATM layer headers are optimized and idle cells are removed.
ATM mode: ATM layer headers are optimized and idle cells are removed.
ATM cells padding removal.
smart ATM cells drop in time of congestion
Grooming: All ATM cells, except idle cells, are transparently transmitted. Idle
cells are removed.
The I-Gate 4000 SBO-MB supports the AAL Auto-Detection feature, which performs
automatic detection and classification of the AAL0, AAL2, and AAL5 ATM cells.
For ATM links, the operator can configure the type of optimization applicable per configured VCC
(VPI, VCI) as follows:
AAL0 or AAL2 or AAL5: performs AAL optimization mode
ATM: performs ATM optimization mode
Grooming
The I-Gate 4000 SBO-MB performs automatic detection of Iub service type and frame format.
Savings of 46% for 4 E1 lines of Abis traffic and 8 Mbps of Iub traffic with 70% data traffic.
Savings of 23% for 4 E1 lines of Abis traffic and 24 Mbps of Iub traffic with 100% data traffic.
Bandwidth savings will vary from one network to another as well as from one POA to another.
