COURSE SYNOPSIS:
This is an advanced English language course for learners who are familiar with most
structural patterns of English and able to use them in both academic and workplace
situations. It enhances students ability to construct complex structures, present and
evaluate arguments systematically in listening, speaking and writing activities.
Students develop critical reading skills by evaluating information from reading texts
and writing process, compare and contrast, and argumentative essays.

(Ini adalah kursus bahasa Inggeris peringkat tinggi untuk pelajar yang sudah biasa
dengan kebanyakan corak struktur bahasa Inggeris dan boleh menggunakannya
dalam kedua-dua situasi akademik dan tempat kerja.

Ia meningkatkan keupayaan pelajar untuk membina struktur kompleks, menyampai


dan menilai hujah-hujah secara sistematik dalam aktiviti mendengar, bertutur dan
menulis. Pelajar menguasai kemahiran membaca kritikal dengan menilai maklumat
daripada bahan bacaan dan menulis esei proses, membandingkan dan
membezakan, dan perbahasan.)

This course is needed to cater to students who are ready to progress to the upper
intermediate level of proficiency in English at the point of entry or after completing
the English Proficiency Levels 1, 2 and 3 courses.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

1. Infer details from English discourse. (C4)


2. Interpret and evaluate variety of reading materials. (C6)
3. Defend, evaluate and present arguments in debates. (C6)
4. Write different types of essays with fluency and accuracy. (C6)

Reminder:

1. Students must attend all lectures, tutorials, laboratory, studio or other activities related to the course, including courses with no final
examination (perkara 4.1 dan 4.3).
2. Student with attendance of less than 80% will not be allowed to sit for final examination (perkara 4.2).
3. Perkara 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 can be waived for students who suffer from health problems and must be certified by government or UPSI panel clinic
medical officer.
4. Student who has to represent UPSI/State/Country in activity that is directed by the government or UPSI, is required to obtain a
recommendation letter from the Dean and must be approved by the Academic Affairs Division.
