KILLING ON NARCO-POLITICIANS

Politicians is a person active in party politics, or a person holding or seeking office

in government. In democratic countries, politicians seek elective positions within a
government through elections or, at times, temporary appointment to replace politicians
who have died, resigned or have been otherwise removed from office. Politicians
propose, support and create laws or policies that govern the land and, by extension, its
people.

Broadly speaking, a "politician" can be anyone who seeks to achieve political

power in any bureaucratic institution. We looked up politicians as a role models and great
leaders in our society. In the eyes of ordinary citizen like us, we considered them as the
modern thinker, intelligent human beings.

Since the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, the names of the politicians
have new impressions from what the usual views of the masses to them.

NATIONAL and local broadsheets in the country have been reporting about
political leaders linked to illegal drugs. Even among old Filipino films dating back as early
as the 70s, there were stories of political leaders being the head of drug cartels.

Since the onset of Duterte's presidency, his program to clean the country of illegal
drugs have resulted to surrender, capture and even death of suspected narcotic
personalities. In the Cordilleras, over 5,000 individuals have surrendered to police
authorities.

This includes two incumbent political leaders in Abra, a mayor and a councilor. But
despite the intensive campaign against drugs, groups affected by the clearing operation
are now fighting back. A Benguet mAY son was killed during an anti-narcotic operation in
Masbate. This raised the alarm on politicians being the protectors of narco operations.
The Mayor of Albuera, Leyte also killed while inside the jail, and recently only, the
Parijinog Massacre where the Mayor and his wife and some of his relatives were died
in the search warrant operation made by the CIDG.
Since our president enumerated those he called Narco-Politicians many of these
people were killed but with the reason of Nanlaban po kasi. This tag line is now the
favorite lines of every policeman who killed someone who said to be involved in illegal
drug trades.

Political analysts in the Philippines have claimed that narco politics is present
especially during times when elections are nearing even in barangay elections. These
government officials usually use narcotics to bribe voters.

Once, Gibo Teodoro stated there is fear that illicit narcotics funds may affect
election results in the Philippines. It can be seen that narco politics is something our
government should monitor because illegal drugs and politics is a very serious and
dangerous matter and involves huge amount of money. Not even with claims that money
from illegal drugs could have been used to finance the campaign of some local politicians
and that some of them are directly involved in the illicit trade, the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said there are simply no reliable data to back up these
allegations.

In fact, PDEA does not have hard evidence against top government officials who
are said to be involved in the drug trade. The government agency admitted that drug
traffickers are better equipped than them and the archipelagic nature of the Philippines
makes it more difficult for them to run after these criminals. This now challenges the
government on its goal to eradicate drugs. But this should not be fought alone by PDEA
or the PNP. Interagency cooperation is needed especially the Bureau of Customs in
defeating the drug menace.

We Filipinos only want a clean and peaceful society, we only our family to be safe
always. We all know that this illegal drugs brought a lot of messed in every lives of human.
This illegal drugs also the main cause why the number of crimes in our countries are
increasing as days passed by.

Maybe, some of us will agree on the idea of our President on his TOKHANG
operation, because he only proves that this operation is not only for the ordinary and small
time illegal drugs dealer but also on the biggest persons in our society which are the
Narco-Politicians.

But come to think of it, is this operation how many percent decreased from the
number of illegal drug users and dealers? Is it really high that the mass and narco-
politician killing worth it?
