Year 2: Term 2 Week 4
TOPIC: Roots and Routes
We will be covering the following work in Numeracy, Literacy, Science and Social Studies.
Numeracy This week we are learning about fractions
and doubling and halving. We will be
using a lot of practical activities. Children
will use coloured paper and shapes for
fractions. They will have to cut the shapes
into halves, quarters, thirds, fifths and
eighths. Doubling and halving will be
taught in a similar way. Children will fold
paper into halves, draw objects and write
numbers on one half and double them on
the other half.
Task: Give your children a bar of
chocolate and ask them to share it with
their brother/sister. Make sure they cut it
in half and both halves are equal.
Maths homework will be sent out on
Sunday. Children are expected to bring it
back on Thursday. Encourage them to
complete it over the week, not on one
day.

Literacy Children will go to their RWInc classes .
Spelling words will be sent out on
Sundays. Children will have the spelling
test on Thursdays. Please encourage them
to practise spelling words and sentences
every day of the week.
Some children will go to a new RWInc
teacher from today. Ask your child, if
they dont know the name of their new
teacher, let us know and we will inform
you.

News:
Thank you to everyone who attended our coffee
catch-up. We were very pleased to see so many of
you. This showed us you are constantly involved in
your childrens education. Please let us know if
there is anything you would like to have a workshop
about. We are more than happy to have these
gatherings more often in the future.
Please be reminded that reading books need to be
handed in on Sundays. If your child doesnt bring it
on Sunday, they might not get a new one for that
week.
Please make sure your children bring healthy food
to school. We still have too many children who
bring sweets, jellies, chocolate, Nutella etc. These
are not allowed except on Thursdays when we have
our Golden time. Thanks for your understanding.
Reminders:
Our CCAs are still held on Tuesdays from 2:50-
3:50. Bus children have to be picked up by their
parents after the clubs.
Please note that our e-mails have changed. Use our
new e-mail addresses since the old ones wont be in
function anymore.

We are still learning about Plants. This

Science week children will observe the growth of
their plants. They will have to draw a
picture and write a sentence about their
plants every day.
Task: Ask your children about their
plants every day. Ask them to describe it
to you and how many times they have
watered it.

Social Studies We are still learning about weather

disasters in different countries. This
weeks experiment will be to make rain
drops by using hot water, ice cubes and
plates. Children will learn how rain is
formed when the hot air from the ground
rises up and meets the cold air in the
atmosphere.
Task: Ask the children to explain to you
the process of making rain drops. If you
think they are confident enough to show
you the experiment, help them and do it
together at home.
