MLG 100 Final Exam Spring 2017 (Acc) Instructor - Bruce Smith
The exam was posted on the course website by 7AM CT, Saturday,
May 6, 2017 to print out. You should print up at
least one hard copy. Do this as soon as you can. The exam will no
longer be available online after Friday, May 12th.
You can use the copy of the exam to prepare for taking the exam. You
may determine correct responses for each
question. You can use any resource available to you including the text,
investigations manual, Internet sources, etc.
You may also collaborate with other course participants about the
exam. However, the exam will be taken with
Examity by yourself with no outside assistance. Do not take the
answers to the test with you, except in your
memory.
Sometime during the exam period (May 9 - 12) you will need to take
the exam under the direct supervision of the
Examity proctor system. You must have registered with Examity and
created a profile prior to taking the exam. You
can access Examity through the D2L/Brightspace course site. You
will need to schedule an exam time with the
Examity Proctor. You will print up a clean copy of the exam in the
presence of the Examity proctor. They will certify
that they examined the exam copy and made sure it was unmarked,
that they watched you take the exam, and that you
followed exam procedures. Note: The exam copy you print out at the
time of the exam will not include the multiplechoice questions.
Part I of the exam (40 multiple-choice questions) will be completed
on the MLG 100 Brightspace/D2L course site. You
must log into the site and locate Final Exam - Part I - Multiple
Choice Questions in the Quizzes section under the
Activities tab. You will complete these as you completed the weekly
chapter quizzes. The Examity proctor will provide
you with the password to access the Final Exam Multiple Choice
questions. Note: The order of the questions when you
answer them online may not be the same as on the printed version.
Part II of the exam will be completed on the paper copy of pages 6, 7
& 8 of the exam. When you have completed this
portion of the exam, you will scan an image of these pages using a
scanner attached to the computer you are using to
take the exam. If a scanner is not available, then you can transmit an
image of these pages using the camera on the
computer. The images must be legible for me to properly evaluate
them. You only need to transmit pages 6, 7 & 8
of the exam. Be sure your name appears on all pages. Do not send any
other pages. The scanned images or images
from the camera should be uploaded to the course dropbox folder
entitled Final Exam Submissions. Follow the same
procedure you use to submit your weekly graphics assignments.
Exam rules are:
1. There is a 75-minute time limit.
2. No use of calculators, computers, PDAs, cell phones, books, or
notes sheets.
3. This is an individual effort with no study partners or collaborating
on the exam.
4. You must print a clean copy of the exam at the time of the exam
under the supervision of the Examity proctor. The
proctor should check the exam to see that nothing has been written on
it.
5. The proctor will supervise you while you take the exam and certify
that the procedures have been followed.
6. The student can use a pen or pencil or both to complete Part II of
the exam.
7. You may complete parts I and II in any order. In other words, you
can do Part II first before completing the Multiple
Choice Questions. However, once you start Part I, you must complete
it. Note: Be sure your markings and writing on the exam are clear and
can be read. I cannot evaluate what I
cannot read. BGS MLG 100 Final Exam (Smith) Page 1 of 10 MLG

Analysis 100 points On the evening of April 10, 2011 an outbreak
of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes tore across central and
northeast Wisconsin. Fifteen tornadoes were confirmed in Wisconsin,
most across the central and northeast
part of the state. For this analysis (Questions A-F), you will be using
the Midwest Surface Data Map from
00Z, April 11, 2011. This map is Figure 1 on this exam. You will also
be using the Meteogram for Green
Bay, Wisconsin (KGRB) for 00Z to 2300Z for April 11th. (Figure 5
on this exam) The Meteogram shows
three graphs. The top graph shows changes in air temperature and
dew point, the center graph shows changes
in sky conditions (C indicates clear) and ceiling height and the
bottom graph shows changes in barometric
pressure. In addition, wind speed, direction and weather conditions
are indicated using standard station
model symbols. The time is shown on the bottom of the page in GMT
time (00Z 4/11 to 2300Z 4/11.) The
darker vertical line is 12Z 4/11. Study this Meteogram carefully. If
you need help interpreting the
Meteogram, you can get assistance prior to taking the exam at
http://vortex.plymouth.edu/meteogram_info.html. A. Convert the
following GMT times to local time in Wisconsin (Central Daylight
Time) 00Z 4/11/11 = Date - ___Time ___CDT 12Z 4/11/11 = Date -
__ Time _____CDT B. Find the station model near Bismarck, North
Dakota. It is the station in the south central part of the state. Describe
the weather conditions in Bismarck at the time of the observation.
Include temperature, dew point, barometric pressure, wind speed and
direction, and sky conditions. Be sure to include appropriate units on
each value. C. Find the station model near Madison, Wisconsin. It is
the station in the south central part of the state. Describe the weather
conditions in Madison at the time of the observation. Include
temperature, dew point, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction,
and sky conditions. Be sure to include appropriate units on each value.
D. Study the differences in weather conditions between Bismarck and
Madison at the time of the observations. Compare and contrast two
parameters that show the greatest difference. F. On the surface data
map on in Figure 1, locate the station with the lowest surface pressure.
Circle this station and label it "Low". Now locate the
station with the highest surface pressure. Circle this station and label
it "High". Do this directly on the map. F. In the box to the
right, using the data from the Meteogram (Figure 5), draw a standard
station model that depicts the weather conditions including
temperature, dew point, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction,
and sky conditions, that were present at Green Bay, WI at 20Z on
April 11, 2011. MLG 100 Final Exam (Smith) Page 6 of 10 MLG 100
