Job # 3:

To measure the surface area and volume of various objects and area
of engineering mechanics lab in SI, FPS, and CGS systems:
Apparatus:

1. Steel tape
2. Fiber glass tape
3. Wooden table
4. Wooden cube

Purpose:

To get familiar with area and volume units in different systems of units and their conversion
into another system.

Related theory:

Surface area: Area of contact surface of an object with the atmosphere.

Conversion factors:

1ft2 = 144m2

1m2 = 10.764ft2

1 hector = 10,000m2

1 murabba = 25 acre

1 acre = 8 kanal = 160 marla

1 kannal = 20 marla = 4500ft2

1 marla = 225ft2 (urban areas)

1 marla = 272.25ft2 (rural areas)

Volume: the space occupied by body is called its volume.

Conversion factors:

1m3 = 1000 liters

1 liter = 1dm3

1 gallon = 4.546 liters (UK)

1 gallon = 3.785 liters (US)

1 barrel = 115.62 liters

At 40C 1 liter water = 1 kg of water
