Q1.
India, with an area of 32,87,263 sq.km. is the 7th largest country in the world.
The countries which are larger than India (in area) are Russia, Canada, China, USA,
Brazil and Australia.
Q2.
The Nanda Devi Biosphere reserve situated in Uttarakhand includes parts of Chamoli,
Almora, Pithoragraph and Bageshwar districts.
The major forest types of the reserve are temperate.
A few important species are silver weed and orchids like latifolie and rhododendron.
Q3.
Modern hockey evolved from traditional games once current in Britain.
Hockey, like many other modern games, was introduced into India by the British army in
colonial times.
The first Hockey club in India was started in Calcutta in 1885 1886.
India was represented in the hockey competition of the Olympic games for the first time
in 1928.
Q4.
LTE stands for Long Term Evolution, and isnt as much a technology as it is the path
followed to achieve 4G speeds.
As it stands, most of the time when your phone displays the 4G symbol in the upper
right corner, it doesnt really mean it.
When the ITU-R (International Telecommunications Union-Radio) set the minimum
speeds for 4G, they were a bit unreachable, despite the amount of money, tech
manufacturers put into achieving them.

A programme called SATYAM-Science and Technology of Yoga and Meditation has
been launched to strengthen research in the areas of yoga and meditation.
The programme will encourage research in two major thematic areas:
- Investigations on the effect of Yoga and meditation on physical and mental health
- Investigations on the effect of Yoga & meditation on the body, brain and mind in
terms of basic processes occurring therein.

It has top supersonic speed of Mach 2. It is two-stage missile, the first one being solid
and the second one ramjet liquid propellant. It is capable of carrying a warhead of 300
kilogram, both conventional and nuclear.

Biomagnification stands for Biological Magnification, which means the increase of
contaminated substances or toxic chemicals that take place in the food chains.
These substances often arise from intoxicated or contaminated environments.
The contaminants include heavy metals namely mercury, arsenic, pesticides such as
DDT, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) compounds which are then taken up by
organisms because of the food they consume or the intoxication of their environment.

The crops that grow in monsoon period are called Kharif crops which are around June to
October. The major Kharif crops that are harvested in sub continent are paddy, soya-
bean, maize, pigeon-pea, and cotton, green and black grams.
The crops that are harvested in winter period are called Rabi crops which are around
November to April. Major Rabi crops that are harvested in subcontinents are wheat,
grams, peas, mustard, linseed and barley. Most of the crops are under Rabi season. It is
an integral crop in our country.
