High Deposition Build Up

Due to its close match of thermal expansion characteristic and

inherently ductile microstructure, SHS 7214 performs exceptionally Multiple Pass Welds

Weld Parameters
SHS 7214 weld parameter development was completed with a Miller
Delta-Fab system. Therefore, small changes in parameters may
need to be made with other systems. These parameters result in very
good weld overlays with a short arc length and smooth beads with
good arc transfer in the short arc and small globular range. Cross Side and top views of four pass
checking is usually avoided when welding onto plain carbon or low SHS 7214 weld overlay
alloy steels. But in cases where slight cross checking is observed,
this can be generally eliminated by preheating above 600F. Weave
speeds and velocities will vary with application, but with a highly
fluid material such as SHS 7214 there will be a large range of weave
parameters that will suit the application depending on the specifics
of the geometry. Weld beads up to 1.5 wide are easily attainable.
When using the recommended parameters, spatter can be kept to a
minimum resulting in deposit efficiencies over 95%. SHS 7214 weld
overlays exhibit superior toughness with minimal cracking/cross
checking and are also ferromagnetic and machinable.
