El ao 2010, el Programa Ingls Abre Puertas present el recurso educativo Its my turn
(IMT), con el propsito de apoyar la labor del docente no especialista y de satisfacer
las necesidades de enseanza-aprendizaje del idioma ingls en los niveles de 5 y 6
ao de enseanza bsica en establecimientos rurales del pas, obligatorio desde el ao
2010, segn el DS n40, 1996.

Desde el ao 2016, los establecimientos tendrn la facultad de elegir entre el recurso


educativo IMT y el texto regular para 5 y 6 bsico, teniendo en consideracin la
realidad del establecimiento con respecto a la enseanza del ingls. Esta elegibilidad se
realizar a travs del Acta de Compromiso de Textos.

La Gua Didctica 5 contiene los objetivos de aprendizaje trazados para la asignatura,


alineados al contexto rural adems de las respuestas a todas las actividades presentes
en el Cuadernillo de Ejercicios 5.

Introduccin

1. Para quin es este material?


Este material ha sido preparado para alumnos y alumnas de 5 ao bsico de escuelas rurales de Chile
que comienzan a aprender ingls como lengua extranjera. Presenta el ingls de una forma entretenida,
de manera de captar el inters del estudiante y favorecer su aprendizaje. Es una herramienta til para
el (la) profesor(a) en cuanto expone al alumno al idioma y lo (la) apoya facilitando actividades para el
aprendizaje. Este material invita a los (las) profesores(as) que no manejan el idioma extranjero a aprenderlo
en forma paralela con sus estudiantes y que stos adquieran confianza en sus propias capacidades.

2. Qu incluye este material?


DVD de 40 episodios a todo color en animacin 3D.
Cuadernillo de ejercicios para el estudiante que contiene actividades para las 40 lecciones.
CD de audio con canciones, rimas y poemas.
Manual del profesor(a) con cuadernillo del estudiante con respuestas.

3. Cmo est organizado el material?


3.1 Estructura de las unidades
El material est compuesto de 5 Unidades con 8 Lecciones cada una. Una unidad corresponde a dos
meses de clases. Cada unidad presenta una rutina diferente. Las rutinas son:

Unidad II Informacin personal
Unidad III El clima
Unidad IV Medios de transportes
Unidad V Resumen

La unidad V es un resumen de las cuatro unidades anteriores y sigue un formato diferente a las
dems. En esta unidad se repasan todas las rutinas y los contenidos de las unidades anteriores.

3.2 Estructura de las lecciones


Cada unidad est constituida por ocho (8) lecciones. La leccin nmero 1 comienza siempre con una
rutina nueva y por lo tanto no incluye una seccin de Review. A partir de la leccin 2 hasta la 7 se
incorporan dos secciones: una de revisin de algunos pasajes clave de la leccin anterior y una final
de consolidacin, la cual en la leccin siguiente, pasa a ser la seccin de revisin. Esta estructura de
espiral contribuye al aprendizaje del idioma extranjero, puesto que los estudiantes requieren de una

exposicin frecuente y contextualizada a los diversos componentes del idioma. La octava siempre
es una leccin especial, puesto que est dedicada totalmente a una gran consolidacin de las siete
lecciones anteriores.
Dado que este curso cuenta con 40 lecciones de 1 hora pedaggica cada una, y las horas de ingls
en el currculo nacional son 80 horas, se sugiere que cada leccin sea vista por los alumnos en dos
ocasiones seguidas. Es decir, usted muestra la leccin 1 en una clase y la siguiente clase muestra
nuevamente la leccin 1. El cuadernillo de ejercicios del estudiante contiene diferentes actividades
para ambas ocasiones. Este procedimiento de repeticin ayuda a la retencin de los contenidos por
parte de los alumnos.
3.3 Dos pausas en la leccin animada
Cada leccin tiene dos pausas ( ) de trabajo donde usted detiene el DVD y realiza actividades
con los alumnos. Durante la primera pausa ( ) los alumnos trabajan en parejas, practicando
pequeas interacciones basadas en la leccin; estas interacciones las encontrar escritas en el
cuadernillo del estudiante y en este manual en la seccin Dilogos para la primera pausa.
Durante la segunda pausa ( ), los alumnos realizan ejercicios en el cuadernillo del estudiante.
3.4 Momentos de repeticin durante la leccin animada
Los personajes invitan frecuentemente a los nios reales a participar de la clase virtual repitiendo
palabras, oraciones, canciones y poemas. Cada vez que sucede esto en la leccin, aparece un cono
( R ) que indica la participacin de la audiencia real. En estas instancias motive a sus alumnos y alumnas
a repetir con los personajes de la serie, dndoles reforzamiento positivo de manera oral diciendo por
ejemplo very good, please repeat, well done. Tambin es beneficioso aplaudirlos, felicitarlos y repetir
junto con ellos. Asimismo, hay secciones en que se invita a los alumnos a responder preguntas
hechas por alguno de los personajes, que tambin son sealadas en la leccin.

4. Qu objetivos fundamentales transversales (OFTs)


pueden ser desarrollados por el(la) docente?
Este material ha sido diseado en consideracin de los OFTs. Se ha incorporado, por ejemplo,
animales autctonos, tales como el pud, la chinchilla, la loica y el armadillo o quirquincho, con el
fin de realzar el valor de lo propio, especialmente del Chile rural, junto con el respeto a la naturaleza.
A modo de ejemplo, Ral, el tierno pud, presenta una caracterstica especial: tiene una orejita rota;
situacin cuidadosamente pensada y que se explica en episodios futuros. Se promueve el respeto a
la diversidad, a la discapacidad y a la naturaleza. Recordemos que estos animales estn en peligro
de extincin, por lo cual el cuidado de la naturaleza es un tema central de este recurso pedaggico.
Comente estos temas con sus alumnos a medida que aparezcan y a desarrllelos segn usted estime
conveniente de acuerdo a la realidad de su grupo curso.

Cul es el contexto en que se desarrollan


las lecciones?
La historia se desarrolla en dos contextos diferentes que interactan entre s. Por un lado est la historia
en una escuela rural de Chile donde estudian el profesor Campos y sus alumnos y alumnas. La historia
comienza cuando a principios del ao escolar llega Tom a la escuela, un nio extranjero que ha venido
a Chile a vivir con sus padres quienes se dedican al turismo aventura. Tom no habla castellano y los
nios de la escuela estn aprendiendo ingls, lo cual provoca situaciones inesperadas y entretenidas.
Por otro lado, existen cuatro animalitos autctonos: una chinchilla, un pud, una loica y un armadillo
que han encontrado refugio en un rbol que se encuentra en el patio de la escuela.

Personajes
Mr. Campos
Hola, nios y nias! Yo soy Mr. Campos, el profesor
de esta escuela. Hablo ingls y castellano. Hace
mucho tiempo vine a este lugar y me gust tanto
que quise quedarme. l es el nuevo alumno de la
escuela. Se llama Tom y es angloparlante.

Anglica
Hola, hola! Mi nombre es Anglica y tengo 10 aos. Soy chilena y hablo
ingls porque me gusta mucho y tengo amigos angloparlantes.

Sofa
Hola a todos! Yo me llamo Sofa. La verdad es que no hablo ni un
poquito de ingls, pero como soy preguntona he avanzado bastante
en el ltimo tiempo. Mis amigos y Mr. Campos me han ayudado a
comprender el idioma de una manera muy fcil y entretenida. Te
gustara aprender conmigo?

Hola, qu tal? Yo soy Jos. Mis amigos me dicen que a veces soy un
poco amurrado y tienen razn. Hablo castellano y no s mucho ingls.
Les cuento un secreto? Los das en que jugamos en clases aprendo
bastante, por eso me gusta venir a la escuela.

Jim
Hola! Yo soy Jim, el armadillo. Vengo de Texas, Estados Unidos. Ya
descubrirn por qu hablo ingls. Todos dicen que mi personalidad
cambia con el idioma; cuando hablo en castellano me pongo serio y
cuando hablo en ingls soy ms entretenido.

Anita
Hola! Mi nombre es Anita. Vengo del norte de Chile y represento a todas las
chinchillas del pas. Vivo junto a mis amigos en la casita del rbol que est
en el patio de la escuela. Me encanta observar a los alumnos y alumnas
por la ventana cuando estn en clases. Ella es Mary
y no sabe hablar castellano; es una Loica chilena.
Cuando naci, fue adoptada por aves migratorias
y as aprendi ingls. En cuanto aprendi a volar, volvi a Chile para
ensear este lindo idioma.

Ral
Mucho gusto, amigos. Mi nombre es Ral. Soy uno de los pocos pudes
que habitan en Chile. Todos me dicen que soy muy amable y atento.
Hablo en castellano y a veces me cuesta escuchar porque tengo una
orejita solamente.

dice que soy muy goloso y la verdad es que es cierto, me encantan los
chocolates!

las imgenes al final de cada leccin. Tengo la gracia de detectarlo todo

Hola a todos! Yo soy el mono Chippy y me encanta comer pltanos.
Siempre me van a ver al aire libre porque no me gusta estar encerrado.

Esta unidad es una gran consolidacin de las unidades anteriores donde se refuerzan todas las
rutinas y contenidos hasta ahora presentados.

Diseo Metodolgico
Observaciones generales
Existen dos principios fundamentales que sustentan el diseo de las lecciones y ejercios: La
redundancia y el reciclaje.
El aprendizaje, sobre todo de un idioma extranjero, requiere que el o la estudiante tenga acceso
reiterado a la nueva informacin. As se favorece su identificacin y luego retencin, requisitos
para lograr reproducir palabras y frases y , posteriormente, producirlas de manera menos dirigida
y ms creativa. La retencin de la nueva informacin es el primer paso para el desarrollo y logro de
automaticidad en el uso de la lengua.
En este DVD, los encargados de proporcionar el input y acceso al ingls, son los personajes.
Progresivamente, a la imagen y voces de los personajes se agrega texto, es decir, palabras, frases
y oraciones, de manera tal que el estudiante pueda conectar el aspecto auditivo con el visual, no
slo en trminos de imgenes, sino tambin de la palabra escrita. De esta forma, se promueve la
identificacin y decodificacin necesarias para la posterior lectura de mensajes breves.
La gramtica de la lengua extranjera es tratada de manera implcita (sin explicaciones formales o
anlisis) y est subordinada a la presentacin del lxico en contextos situacionales. A medida que
las lecciones se hacen ms complejas en trminos del input presentado, se puede observar que se
demanda que los (las) estudiantes presten atencin a las estructuras gramaticales.
Para la creacin de este DVD, se ha utilizado bibliografa terico-prctica que explica ciertos procesos
y fenmenos relativamente universales. En una primera etapa se han incluido palabras sueltas, que
fusionan varios elementos, semnticos y gramaticales, y que llegan a tener el valor de una frase
completa. As el o la estudiante slo reproduce palabras sueltas, sin sintaxis. A su vez, se incluyen
frases hechas, las que son aprendidas de memoria, sin necesidad que el o la estudiante realice un
anlisis que no es necesario en esta primera etapa. El objetivo es promover la creacin espontnea
de oraciones simples en contexto, an cuando en esta instancia los errores por parte del estudiante,
deben ser esperados.
Se combinan procedimientos que conducen a dos tipos de aprendizajes: memorstico y significativo.
El aprendizaje memorstico se da preferentemente en el proceso que conduce a la retencin de
palabras sueltas y frases hechas, las que proporcionan una plataforma bsica para el aprendizaje de
la nueva informacin. Por su parte, el aprendizaje significativo ocurre con el apoyo de los contextos
y personajes visuales, los que facilitan la comprensin por parte del alumno.
Las destrezas a desarrollar son la comprensin auditiva y la reproduccin de vocabulario con estructuras
simples y graduadas. La lectura, entendida slo como decodificacin de las mismas palabras y frases
hechas presentadas, incorpora en forma gradual, textos breves.

Cada leccin se inicia con una frase hecha. Se denomina as ya que no es necesario haber aprendido
reglas del idioma para poder combinarlas y generar enunciados, ya que pueden ser aprendidas de
memoria, como si fueran palabras largas, mientras se escuchen o se encuentren en contextos claros,
para as lograr comprender su significado.
Se ha integrado el uso espontneo del castellano como lengua materna, en los personajes que
estn recin intentando aprender ingls, para establecer empata y comprensin por parte de los y
las estudiantes reales de nuestro pas con los personajes de la historia que estn involucrados en el
mismo proceso.
En momentos clave se mostrar en la pantalla, de manera escrita, parte del idioma usado por los
personajes (incluyendo palabras sueltas, oraciones y algunos trozos prefabricados), con el objetivo de
promover la asociacin entre lo escuchado y lo presentado visualmente. El hecho que estas palabras,
oraciones o frases hechas, aparezcan en pantalla, no significa que se pida al alumnado que las

al uso oral del ingls.
La explicacin del funcionamiento de la lengua es incorporada de manera gradual. Para comenzar,
esperamos exponer a los y las estudiantes al ingls, y promover gradualmente el descubrimiento o
induccin. Por ejemplo, esperamos que se den cuenta que, mientras en castellano usamos artculos
para decir: levanten la mano; se me perdi el estuche, haciendo referencia a partes del cuerpo y
objetos de nuestra propiedad, en ingls la regla es utilizar un adjetivo, lo que a un hablante del
castellano le puede parecer redundante: raise your hand; I lost my pencil case.
Al reciclar continuamente lo presentado, a travs de una seccin de revisin (recapitulacin de partes
de leccin anterior), finalizando con una de consolidacin (repaso de esa leccin), se contribuye con
con el proceso de construccin del idioma.
Mediante estas estrategias metodolgicas, los alumnos lograrn construir una plataforma lingstica,
sobre la cual es posible edificar futuros aprendizajes.

Cmo puedo mejorar el aprendizaje de


ingls de mis alumnos y alumnas?

Como este material est diseado para escuelas rurales donde los alumnos permanecen en una sala
durante gran parte de la jornada, se sugiere colocar en la sala de clases carteles con palabras sobre
ciertos objetos, por ejemplo, en la puerta colocar la palabra door, sobre el escritorio del profesor desk,
etc. Tener una sala de clases ilustrada ayudar visualmente a los alumnos a recordar vocabulario. Se
sugiere tambin que los alumnos confeccionen afiches con el vocabulario aprendido y expongan
sus trabajos en la sala o dentro de la escuela. Por ejemplo, cuando ensee los colores pueden
confeccionar un afiche con los colores y sus respectivos nombres.
Es recomendable proporcionar a los alumnos y alumnas las letras de las canciones y las rimas en
afiches grandes dentro de la sala. De esta manera las leern durante el da y eso los ayudar a
aprenderlas. Estos afiches puede confeccionarlos usted con un plumn sobre un papel craft o bien
los mismos alumnos o apoderados podran colaborar.
Otro material fcil de confeccionar y muy til para practicar vocabulario son las tarjetas. Por un lado
coloque la ilustracin de la palabra y por el otro la palabra escrita. Estas tarjetas son muy entretenidas
para que los alumnos jueguen memorice; las puede mantener en una caja al alcance de los alumnos
para que las utilicen libremente en caso que lo considere apropiado.
Se sugiere tambin el uso del diccionario. Usted puede forrar una caja de zapatos y colocarle el
nombre Dictionaries y mantener los diccionarios en la sala de clases dentro de la caja y con los
nombres de cada alumno.

Cmo evalo el desempeo de mis alumnos?


Dado que sus alumnos estn comenzando a aprender el ingls, se sugiere una evaluacin ms
formativa que sumativa, donde se evale el proceso del alumno en la adquisicin del nuevo idioma.
Se sabe que los alumnos cometern muchos errores durante el proceso de aprendizaje porque
entendemos que esto es normal y parte del proceso.
Consideramos que el alumno y alumna que escuche atentamente la leccin debiera ser capaz de:
Reaccionar ante la invitacin que los personajes le hagan, por ejemplo, repitiendo
(reproduciendo) algunos temes lxicos (palabras y expresiones hechas) y respondiendo las
preguntas presentadas.
Hacer intentos por cantar las canciones y recitar las rimas.
Leer dilogos, preguntas y respuestas con su compaero (ejercicios de pareja).
Realizar los ejercicios del cuadernillo del estudiante.

Si el alumno demuestra que es capaz de llevar a cabo estas actividades, est a su vez presentando
evidencia de que est involucrado en el proceso conducente al aprendizaje del ingls.
En esta etapa, no se espera que los alumnos sean capaces de comunicarse en un lenguaje fluido,
es decir, no es posible esperar que sean capaces de producir espontneamente oraciones nuevas
a partir de lo ya internalizado, lo cual requiere de mucho tiempo. Tampoco se espera que su
pronunciacin resulte perfecta, como la de un angloparlante. Es muy importante que los alumnos
se sientan motivados a seguir aprendiendo el idioma. Nuestra intencin es que la evaluacin sea un
instrumento que incentive la motivacin y la autoestima de nuestros nios.
Se espera que este material se convierta en una gran herramienta para el aprendizaje del ingls como
lengua extranjera en su escuela y en las de todo el territorio rural de nuestro pas.
