programme of lectures, debates, lecture series and the PAS-festival. Their activities are very interesting for music students as
well, it broadens your horizon. Most of the activities are free of charge. Lecture series cost 5 euro per lectures. You can use part

19-09-2017, 19:30. Studium Generale lecture series 'Human Rights'. This series of lectures will explore the significance of human
rights in a globalizing world, and it will demonstrate how human rights are increasingly becoming an instrument by which the
negative side-effects of globalization may be challenged. Lecture 1. Introduction to International Human Rights. The other

27-09-2017, 19:30. Studium Generale lecture series 'The birth of reason'. This series of lectures will take you on a journey of
discovery from Antiquity to early Modernity. The lecturers will analyze, contextualize, and possibly criticize some of the more
conspicuous rationalization processes that have shaped Western civilization. Lecture 1. The Birth of Scientific Method from
Aristotles Biology. The other lectures of the series take place on 4-10, 11-10, 18-10. See

3/10 Maastricht jazz awards (semi-final); students 05-10-2017 Lecture and workshop 'Deliberate practice', Matty Niel hall, main building, 12:15 - 15:45. Topic: What knowledge is
available from research into effective practising by musicians? How can you use these research findings for your own practising,
teaching, or your own research? Guest lecturer: Joram van Ketel. Joram is a young cognitive psychologist who graduated with a
research project focused on musicians' practising. He is also a trombone student at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

4/10 Maastricht jazz awards (semi-final); professionals Master circle 1 (time and place will be announced on Blackboard). Master circles are mandatory sessions, which focus on
artistic research, in mixed groups of Master 1 and Master 2 students. They take place on various days and times, and will be
scheduled by the research coach
02-10-2017, 20:00. Studium Generale lecture "Why does a Good Life have to be Well-Balanced?" Prof. Ignaas Devisch, Professor
of Ethics, Philosophy and Medical Philosophy, Ghent University. We work less, but we have more to do. We have more free time,
but we sleep less. While we complain about stress we plan overfilled days. But is restlessness really a problem? Free of charge.

Peace Prize 2016. In this lecture, Carolin Emcke will show that we can stand up against dogmatic thinking of hate and

insight in the basic principles of performing arts. You might think that, as a musician, you already know all about performing.
However, since professor Mineur is a dramaturg and artistic researcher, and teaches cultural criticism in the Maastricht
Academy of Performing Arts, he will approach performing arts from a different, interdisciplinary angle.

insight into how our society and art are more and more influenced by the so-called experience culture. What is the impact of
this development for performers? What happens when the borders between performer and audience become diffuse?

8-20/11 film project Krakow/Karlsruhe/Maastricht 16-11-2017 Lecture 'Visual Culture'. In this lecture guest professor Dirk Reynders will give you insight in several aspects of visual
culture and what the impact is for artists and musicians. How can musicians be more aware of the visual aspects of their
performance, and use it to enhance their performance? Dirk Reynders graduated from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel as PhD in
Communication Studies, option Visual Communication. In addition to his doctoral degree, he studied Film Studies and Visual
Culture at the University of Antwerp, Queer Studies at The University of Manchester and Fashion Photography at The University
of Arts in London.
At the moment he is part time lecturer Media Studies and Photo theory at the Maastricht Academy of Media, Arts, Design and
Technology (MADT-Zuyd University) and at the Media, Arts & Design Faculty (Catholic University College).
