The Rule Conversion Utility facilitates building and editing Authorizations Insights rules and Parameter
Lists outside in Continuous Monitoring.
The utility offers Continuous Monitoring users an alternate means for managing their rule books. It also
enhances rule editing capability in situations where you have created complex rules with many conditions
and find the online interface to be slow, or you need to create or modify rules while not connected to
the Continuous Monitoring server. Continuous Monitoring ensures that rules are only modified or created
by users having the appropriate roles within Continuous Monitoring, so the integrity of your rule books
remains intact.
The utility enables you to:
Convert Continuous Monitoring rules from an Excel spreadsheet to XML (the Continuous Monitoring
standard format) and the reverse.
Convert Parameter Lists from an Excel spreadsheet to XML (the Continuous Monitoring standard
format) and the reverse.
The utility also provides templates to build rules and parameter library using spreadsheets.
Insights supported
Rule Conversion Utility supports sensitive or conflicts rule types for these Insights:
Authorizations Insight for SAP
Authorizations Insight for Oracle
Authorizations Insight for PeopleSoft HRMS
Authorizations Insight for PeopleSoft FISCM
This section describes the procedure to set up, execute, and use Rule Conversion Utility, and the
prerequisites for installation.

5 Click Convert. The utility converts the Excel file to an XML file and stores it at the specified location.
A message box displays the result of the conversion. The converted output XML file is stamped with
date and time. Any exceptions or errors encountered during the conversion are logged in a log file
located at the output directory path specified. A log file named BRXLToXML is created at the same
location as that of the output file.
6 Click Exit to close the utility and view the converted file at the specified output location.
Note: Click View Rules Template or View Parameter Library Template to view the pre-defined Excel
templates shipped with the utility.
Important: Before uploading the final XML file into Continuous Monitoring, ensure that an extraction
has been performed for the Authorizations Insight used for rule building. Unless data from the application
is available in Continuous Monitoring, you cannot add new objects to a rule or create a new rule.
The Rule Conversion Utility provides pre-defined Excel templates that you can use to create or edit
rules and parameter lists outside of Continuous Monitoring. All the columns in the Excel file templates
are mandatory. Some columns also require default values so that the spreadsheet is compatible with
the Continuous Monitoring user interface:
The pre-defined excel templates are:
"Rules templates" on page 13
"Parameter library templates" on page 35
Rules templates
This section lists the details required for the pre-defined rules template, for these ERP applications:
