WHATS HAPPENING?
Scholars will be receiving their first
quarter progress reports this week. We will
spend time in class analyzing our current
grades, reflecting on the habits and
behaviors that have helped to result in our
current grades, and planning specific ways
to improve, or maintain, our grades.

Medical Forms
READING: We will be finished Fantastic Mr.
Fox this week. Scholars have done a great
job making inferences and supporting each
other through turn and talks during our
classroom discussions. Scholars will
discuss what the characters in the story
have learned and the authors message of
Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Scholars have done a great job staying
focused in the classroom during
independent reading. We have built
stamina. Please make sure they are reading
for at least 30 minutes at home.
WRITING: This week we will continue to
work with Mentor Sentences and focus
on strengthening our paragraph writing
before moving into our Narrative
Essays.
MATH: We have an exciting week ahead
in math class! We will be putting our
addition and subtraction skills to work
to complete a MARS task called
"Alice's Family Tree." We will also
continue strengthening our mental
math skills during our Math Talks. For
example, we will be mentally considering
the questions: How many ways can we
represent 335,020? We will deepen our
understanding of mathematical
conjectures and arguments and start to
critique the reasoning of others. Finally,
we will begin to use the distributive
property to multiply larger numbers.
SCIENCE: Scholars are learning about
the parts of the plants. They are
coloring and labeling parts of a variety
of different plants. We will be traveling
to the Lincoln Park Zoo for a field trip
Wednesday 11th.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Scholars are
researching Christopher Columbus
through a web quest this week.
Scholars will also begin working on map
skills.
