Good morning The honorable judges

Good morning To all friends, first of all let me thanks God who give us health so we can meet
here and I can stand in front of you all. Before I get to my speech, I personally want to say
thanks to Abdurachman Saleh University which has given me a chance to be here.

On this great occasion, I will deliver my speech entitle Indonesian Youth as a pioneer of change.

Ladies and gentleman,

Brothers and sisters,

Bismillahirrohmanirrohim.

Firstly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one motherland, Indonesia.
Secondly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one nation, the nation of
Indonesia.
Thirdly
We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, respect the language of unity, Indonesian.

Right on this day, 89 years ago, young Indonesians nationalist in the second youth congress
declared the youth pledge or Sumpah Pemuda. They proclaimed three ideals, one motherland,
one nation and one language. They had a great hope that Unity in diversity did exist in Indonesia.

Following the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day on Oct. 28th, again, Indonesians should
consider the importance of youth's contribution to develop the nations. Youth, as the agent of
change, has contributed significantly to the development of Indonesia. Through a series of
historical dates from 1928 until 1998, history has recorded several changes initiated by youth
movement. Thus, it is important to recognize and appreciate the role of young people in nation
building.

From the pledge we should get a conclusion that youth across us, should reclaim the united with
all the differences that exist for Indonesia. But, whats going on in the globalization era now?

We are facing poverty, unemployment, corruption, education, drugs, natural disaster, and the
global challenges in economic.

Ladies and gentleman,

There are some who believe that we must stop the globalization and maintain our living standard
... stop trading to other country, stop the foreign investor and workers but it's impossible to stop
the globalization so rather than fear the future we have to embrace it. I have no doubt that in the
future Indonesia can succeed and compete to other countries.
The real problem is a leadership crisis. We have lack of young leader who can manage those
oppurtunity.. This success will not depend on our government, but depend on determination and
innovation of the Indonesian people, Indonesian youth. Those who are ready to bring the heyday
of Indonesia. Lets return to the past, Sumpah Pemuda. We have Jong Java, Jong Sumatranen
Bond, Jong Islamieten Bond, Jong Ambon, Jong Minahasa. Lets get the spirit back. For an
example, we can achieve and compete the economic challenge through innovation of local
product.

A lot of teenagers feel ashamed with their country. I dont know what makes them feel ashamed
with our local product. They are more proud of brand rather than quality. For example, this
jacket.

This jacket is made by Korea.

O P E N MY J A C K E T

this batik genuinely made in Indonesia. I think that I look handsomer wearing this cloth, an
intangible heritage listed by UNESCO as Indonesian cultural Heritage. Barack Obama, Nelson
Mandella, Jessica Alba, JK. Rowling wear Batik. So we must be poud of our local product,
right?

Ladies and gentleman,

Brothers and sisters,

Lets get started to make our own job oppurtunity in the economic challenge. Like Bill Gates,
Microsoft founder, once said why do you look for a job if you can create it, and you know
what, he has some collection of Batik too.

Through the spirit of Youth Pledge Day, lets build a great Indonesia, be a great leader and be a
pioneer of change so we can solve poverty, unemployment, corruption, education, drugs, natural
disaster, and the global challenges in economic. We can start from our family, school, society,
province and of course our nation. I am Alfan and Im proud to be Indonesian. Thank you.
