INRODUCTION

This narrative report is all about our Basic training at Far East
Maritime Foundation.
The FEMFI is providing the necessary training to keep our seafarers at
par with the worlds best and the ever-changing requirements in the
global shipping community for more reliable and qualified crew to man
their vessels. The impact of having this kind of activity to our course as a
HRS is for our safety and the safety of other people.

SOLAS stands for Safety of Life at Sea. This basic safety training
(BST) is required before you can land a job as a seafarer. Without this
training you are not allowed to sign a contact for a job in a vessel. It is
also is an international maritime treaty which requires Signatory Flag
states to ensure that ships lagged by them comply with minimum safety
standards in construction.

The study of Safety of Life at Sea is to answer the questions

regarding the
importance of life and the safety at sea.

II. A. BODY

1. FIRE PREVENTION AND FIRE FIGHTING

The fire fighting course is great with realistic training methods.

This course contains some physical exercise during the practical

sessions which some may find demanding. Any candidate unsure of their
fitness and suitability for such activities should consult their doctor. The
practical element of the course requires delegates to wear breathing
apparatus and a darkened space in order to carry out search and rescue,
and fire fighting.

This was discussed y Mr. Reynan Castro, he is one of our

instructors during the SOLAS and were very lucky because he was very
intelligent in discussing our lesson. He knows how to deal with us, as a
trainee in their training center. We all happy and having fun because we
really enjoyed having his class.

2. PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES

Is a one day course split into both theory and practicals including
launching
and entering a life raft. Included are actions to be taken by persons for
self protection in emergency situations, survival at sea and deployment of
safety equipment. It forms part of the mandatory basic training for all
seafaring personnel. So its also part of our offshore training courses.

Its all about how to survive at the middle of the sea that what
happened when the cruise is sinking. It is very helpful when the person
inside the cruise is know how to do the survival techniques and to used
the life raft in case of emergency.

So it is important to know the basic training on this topic. The

most important thing is to know how to survive and carry search and
rescue at the middle of the sea without instructed by a higher position
inside the cruise.
3. ELEMENTARY FIRST AID

Is designed to form part of the minimum basic safety training

program for seafarers. The aim of the course is to give all persons
intending to go to sea a basic knowledge of the immediate action to be
taken upon encountering an accident or other medical emergencies at
sea.

For us, we are very excited to this topic discussed He

demonstrated about that topic. He was a registered nurse and worked at
the hospital at Manila. He demo on how to use the triangular cloth for a
first aider and it depends on the wounds or fractures that we must cure
or put some fist aid so that it can not bleed and loss a lot of blood of the
patience when it is happen at the middle of the sea. He also tried to used
the blood pressure so that we may know on how to check it to the person
who can need it.

4.PERSONAL SAFETY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBITIES

This course forms part of the mandatory basic offshore safety

training for all seafarers assigned safety or pollution prevention duties.
Its objectives are to give basic induction training in safety procedures
and accident prevention and to familiarize personnel with the
employment conditions and working environment on board vessel.

This is the last lesson that we discussed in the training that was
discussed by Mr. Zapata. It was very interesting on that topic because it
was so incredible to know the different parts of the vessels and to
determined what kind of vessels that we must go when shipping on
board.
B. THE FEELING

Now imagine that we can't see anything. The fire has shorted out
electricity to the building (or the fire department has shut if off for their
own safety), so all of the lights have gone out, and the room is rapidly
filling with thick gray smoke, so much smoke that not even sunlight can
get in.

At first we think to yourself, "I can get out of here. I've been in here
before, and I know my way out." But that was when were walking upright
and could see. Now imagine doing it on your hands and knees because
the smoke is toxic and superheated, so we can't stand up in it. So
imagine yourself blinded and crawling on your hands and knees trying to
FEEL your way out.

Imagine how hard that would be, especially if we had the added
stress of actually being in a burning building. We had never been in that
building beforethat's what it feels like to be a firefighter. The only
difference is that the firefighter is rushing in while we're rushing out.

So far, I have mainly described the physical sensations of

firefighting, but there is another far more powerful feeling that comes
from firefighting, and that is the overwhelming feeling of satisfaction and
accomplishment that comes from saving someone's life. I can't even begin
to describe it, but it's as real, powerful, and memorable as any of the
physical sensations I have ever experienced fighting fire.

C. IMPORTANCE OR BENEFITS

The benefits of our training is to know all HRS students to be

knowledgeable about the basic safety of life at sea and the all
international conventions dealing with HRS safety. Secondly, it gives all
the information of the passengers and all the cargoes who will travel at
sea and lastly, it gives all the HRS students the reminders on the
safeness while on board.

III. CONCLUSION

Therefore, I conclude that having a training about Solas is

important to all HRS students. We must know how to swim because if
they fail their SOLAS, they can't on board in a vessel. In times of
emergency we can use our knowledge in the ship.

IV. Recommendation:
I highly that recommended, that all HOTEL AND RESTAURANT
students have the SOLAS in order to be knowledgeable and well trained
Staff.
