Le festival de labbaye de Saint-Michel en Thirache
(Dpartement de lAisne France)
Cr en 1987 dans le cadre dune action dpartementale de dveloppement musical soutenue par le Conseil
gnral de lAisne avec ladama (Association pour le Dveloppement des Activits Musicales dans lAisne), le
festival de labbaye de Saint-Michel en Thirache, prs de la frontire belge, a t inspir par le potentiel
artistique du site en cours de rhabilitation et en particulier par la prsence de lorgue historique de
Jean Boizard (1714), entirement restaur. Les qualits acoustiques de lglise, lidentit architecturale de
labbaye et le prestige de lorgue ayant conserv lessentiel de sa tuyauterie dorigine ont orient de faon
naturelle les programmes vers le rpertoire baroque. Le festival anime le site abbatial chaque t en juin et
juillet, le dimanche uniquement, la faveur de journes thmatiques offrant deux ou trois concerts donns
par les solistes et les ensembles vocaux ou instrumentaux les plus rputs.
Paralllement, une vritable politique discographique accompagne rgulirement le festival dans trois
directions principales : coproductions denregistrements lis aux programmes ou aux artistes invits
pendant la saison, accueil de productions extrieures bnficiant des atouts artistiques et logistiques du site
abbatial, et enfin codition de la collection Tempraments. Cre en 1995 par Radio France et le
Conseil gnral de lAisne partir des initiatives menes autour de linstrument de labbaye, celle-ci est
dvolue aux plus beaux orgues franais et europens travers des programmes leur associant chanteurs
et instrumentistes.
Fabio Bonizzoni et son ensemble La Risonanza sont invits au festival chaque anne depuis 2004, pour
poursuivre un cycle consacr aux cantates italiennes de Handel, tant au concert quau disque. Fabio Bonizzoni
encadre paralllement au cours de lanne un atelier pdagogique dpartemental de musique ancienne, en
liaison avec les conservatoires et coles de musique de lAisne. Diffrents concerts lorgue et au clavecin
compltent cette action sinscrivant dans une rsidence de cet artiste soutenue par le Conseil gnral de
lAisne et le Ministre de la Culture et de la Communication (drac de Picardie).
