RETIRED U.S. SENATOR JEFF BINGAMAN ENDORSES FORMER U.S. ATTORNEY

AND CANDIDATE FOR CONGRESS, DAMON MARTINEZ

Albuquerque, NM- The five term Senator from New Mexico, Jeff Bingaman, has endorsed former U.S. Attorney
Damon Martinez for New Mexicos First Congressional District. Martinez worked for Senator Bingaman in
Washington focused on a variety of issue including environmental and natural resources.

Damons commitment to the future of New Mexicans is proven. His thoughtful and innovative approach
towards policy-making is what the state and the country need. Damon will be a powerful addition to our
delegation in Washington and I am proud to endorse him for New Mexicos First Congressional District,
Senator Bingaman said.

I am extremely proud to have Senator Bingamans endorsement, said Martinez. Senator Bingaman was a
powerful voice for New Mexico and a strong, thoughtful leader for our country during his 30 years in office. It
is his example that I will strive to emulate in the United States House of Representatives.

After serving in Senator Bingaman's office, Martinez returned to New Mexico and worked in Attorney General
Tom Udalls office and returned to Washington as Udalls Legislative Director when Udall was elected to the
U.S. House of Representatives. After 13 years in the United States Attorneys Office for the District of New
Mexico, President Obama appointed Martinez as the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico, where he
served until he was forced out by the Trump Administration in March of 2017. Martinez is also a member of
the U.S. Army Reserves, which he joined following the events of 9/11.

Damon will be a strong advocate for New Mexicos working families, our children and those who are
struggling. The fundamental principle of social justice guided him during his career addressing the most
pressing issues of our time: the opioid epidemic, domestic violence on tribal lands, sexual assault on campus
and violent cartels.

I am passionate about improving the lives of all New Mexicans, that is why I have devoted my life to public
service, said Martinez. I will never stop advocating for the hard-working families in our community who are
struggling. They need our country, our state, and the First Congressional District to go in a different direction
and I will partner with federal, state and local colleagues to make sure that happens.

New Mexico Democrats will elect their nominee for New Mexicos First Congressional District on June 5, 2018.
The General Election will be held on November 6, 2018.
