Project Overview

This report provides details project about design of acetaldehyde production plant. In
this report covers the project background, plant description, findings of the
feasibility study and plant design technical description.
The targeted production rate of ammonia production in this report is 300
metric tonnes per day (MT/day) or about 90,000 MT/year. The modern
commercialized process dehydrogenation of alcohol was used, with alcohol
and water as the raw materials. The plant design is divided into 3 main sections
which is acetaldehyde synthesis, purification and hydrogen recovery.
The plant life is estimated about 15 years after the start up. The total
capital investment for this project is approximately RM 50 million

Raw material

Ethanol

Ethanol (IUPAC name), also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol or drinking alcohol, is
a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid. It is a psychoactive drug and one of the oldest
recreational drugs. it is used in thermometers, as a solvent, and as a fuel. The
fermentation of sugar into ethanol is one of the earliest biotechnologies employed by
humanity. In modern times, ethanol intended for industrial use is also produced from
ethylene. Ethanol has widespread use as a solvent of substances intended for human
contact or consumption, including scents, flavorings, colorings, and medicines. In
chemistry, it is both an essential solvent and a feedstock for the synthesis of other
products. It has a long history as a fuel for heat and light, and more recently as a fuel
for internal combustion engines.
