~ Kingdom Come Its King ~

Kingdom of God = Kingdom of Heaven

Light Joy Deliverance Peace Justice

Challenge in Understanding The Kingdom:

Modern Thought - Realm Place -> Geography

Ancient Jewish Thought - Time Rule -> Reign

*I want to look at both the 1st verse and the last few verses in Matthew.

Matthews Gospel:

Gospel Good news -> Systematic detailed account of Jesus life

Not arranged around chronological order but rather focuses around the teachings and
stories of Jesus
Writing to a primarily Jewish audience and Matthews internet is to reveal Jesus as
Messiah/Christ/King

Matthew 1:1, 14 - The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of
Abraham 14 - So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and
from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to
Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.

Gematria An ancient Hebrew practice of attributing numbers to the letters of a persons

name

King David Name associated with the #14

*Matthew is opening up his gospel account by connecting the person Jesus as being directly
connected and associated with King David

~ Gods Covenant with David ~

2 Samuel 7:12-16 - When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise
up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13
He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I
will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline
him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, 15 but my steadfast love will not
depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 And your house
and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established
forever.

Prophets Declare about the line of David:

Isaiah 9:7 - Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne
of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with
righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.

Isaiah 11: 1-2 - There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his
roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and
understanding,

Jeremiah 23:5 - Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a
righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and
righteousness in the land

Ezekiel 37:24-27 - My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one
shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes. 25 They shall dwell in
the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and
their children's children shall dwell there forever, and David my servant shall be their prince
forever. 26 I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with
them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their
midst forevermore. 27 My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they
shall be my people

*Matthew is shouting in the first line of his gospel account that this Jesus, from Nazareth, who
lived and walked amongst us, who taught us and performed miracles in our midst, whom you
killed, and whom He resurrected on the 3rd day, this Jesus is in fact the promised One. Jesus is
the promised King!!!

Characteristics of this King:

Rule over His people as a Shepard who cares for His sheep
Will establish peace by executing justice and righteousness
Will make His people know and experience His presence
Will be in an eternal covenant with His people
Reign will be forever and will only increase

*The entire OT narrative points to the King who is to come and will establish His rule and reign
in the earth. Matthews Gospel loudly proclaims He Is Here His Name Is Jesus He Is
Establishing His Kingdom That Will Know No End
*You are not at the center of history! No nation is a the center of history. No empire, political
system, or politician is at the center of history! Rulers come and rulers go. Empires rise and
empires fall. Jesus alone is at the center of history.

All of history either points towards Jesus or flows from Jesus

- David Platt

Matthew 28:18-20 - And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth
has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I
have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

*The commission given by Jesus before He ascended into heaven is that He was King and His
kingdom rule and reign were to be spread over the entire earth. That all nations would come
under His reign.

*Baptism was an ordinance given to the early church to signify that they were dying to all other
rules and were being resurrected as a new creation whose King and Lord is now Jesus. It was a
statement that Jesus is Lord. Caesar was not Lord. Herod was not Lord. Rome was not Lord.
Judaism was not Lord. You are not Lord. America is not Lord. Hillary Clinton is not Lord. Donald
Trump is not Lord. Gary Johnson is not Lord. Jesus alone is Lord! Only He can save!!! Only He
can transform!!! Only He can make all that is wrong and make it right!!!!
