eran pticamente inactivos.

THE EXPERIMENTS OF PASTEUR AND THE EXPLANATION OF VAN'T HOFF-LEBEL

Pasteur was a French scientist who discovered the "academic" mixtures by studying two acids that were added
to the fermentation of wine; tartaric acid and racemic acid, discovered that by forming salts and crystallizing
these they were asymmetric, they agreed the salts in water and put the substances in the polarimeter and
discovered that the tartaric acid was optically inactive so that it consisted of 50:50 of their isomers ie rotating
on both sides (dextrgiro and levgiro). The scientists Van't Hoff and Lebel focused on him study of the way in
which the carbon was linked, they proposed that the carbon was tetrahedral and explained that the rotation of
this depended on the compounds that they found attached to their bonds, thus, the carbons with different
compounds in their bonds presented movement to the right or left and those who were not, were optically
inactive.

ENANTIOMERS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY

The enantiomers have different biological responses depending on their rotation, because they are received by
different sensors that drive different reactions in the body, enantiomers are important for various fields such as
medicine and agriculture, their use is really wide.
