Installation Instructions
Andrew Solutions offers installation training.
The installation, maintenance, or removal of an antenna requires
qualifi ed, experienced personnel. Andrew installation instructions
are written for such installation personnel. Antenna systems should
be inspected once a year by qualifi ed personnel to verify proper
installation, maintenance, and condition of equipment.
Andrew disclaims any liability or responsibility for the results of
improper or unsafe installation practices.
It is recommended that transmit power be turned off when the fi eld
installation is performed. Follow all applicable safety precautions
as shown on this page.
WARRANTY NOTICE
Proper installation procedures must be followed when installing and operating RET equipment. Failure to
assure installations are done
properly by trained installation personnel and to follow procedures discussed in this bulletin may cause
warranty for such products to
be void.
Andrew requires pretesting actuators on the ground prior to installation, using the Andrew portable
controller and the latest
version of the controller software (available online at www.commscope.com/andrew under
ProductsAntennasTeletilt RET
System). This will verify proper actuator functionality and also ensure that the latest available actuator fi
rmware release is installed on
the actuator. Failure to conduct pre-test and pre-installation procedures defi ned by Andrew will void warranty.
Unauthorized removal of a protective shroud to replace actuators voids the Andrew warranty.
SAFETY NOTICE
GENERAL INFORMATION
Teletilt RET control cables are AISG compliant and are used
to feed data and power from the controller to the remote
electrical downtilt (RET) system components.
The ATCB-B01 Series control cables are available in various
lengths. Each cable is terminated with male and female
connectors, which allows them to be linked together to meet
a required length (Figure 1).
The ATCB-B01-R Series RET control cables are equipped
with one or two right-angle connectors. Refer to Table 2.
The male RET connectors always point down in the direction
of the controller. The control cable connector at the base station
end of a home run cable should always be male.
Table 3 on page 4 shows a chart of the available RET
control cabling lengths identifi ed by part number.
Cable kits are also available that contain two cables and
one ATGK-CABLE grounding kit. These cable kits provide
Male Female
a variety of extended cable lengths, totaling 70, 80, 90,
and 100 meters (Table 4).
RET connector pin defi nitions are confi gured in compliance
to the AISG standards. See Figure 4 and Table 1.
PRE-INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
Connectors are to be hand-tightened only. Do not use
pliers. Over-tightening can shear pins off of internal components
of equipment.
RET cables can damage these pins if twisted
with too much force on removal.
The maximum distance from control unit to farthest AISG
component in a RET system depends on the AISG confi
guration and can be up to 300 meters.
Cables and RET systems can be tested using the
ATTK200-KIT test kit.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1. The connectors on RET control cables are keyed
to provide a matching fi t. Mate connections with
caution to not damage pins.
STEP 2. Attach the RET control cable to the actuators AISG
connector by turning clockwise until hand-tight
only.
Note: All RET connectors need to be closed with
an attached cap or cable to fulfi ll water ingress
protection.
Note that the main RET control cable, feeding to the tower
structure, should be secured at 2 m intervals and 1 m
from either end using cable ties (Andrew 40417), hangers
(Andrew 68MCLICK), or similar fasteners. RET control
cables feeding between junction boxes and actuators
should be secured every 0.5 m to avoid excessive wind
vibration.
Andrew recommends grounding RET configurations
on the top and bottom of the site. At the top, this could
be achieved by grounding a top SBT, an AISG TMA, an
ATJB200-A01 junction box, an ATLP200-001 lightning
protection unit, or an ATGK-CABLE grounding kit. At the
bottom, this could be achieved by grounding a lightning
protection unit, a junction box, a bottom SBT, a dc 2.1 bias
tee, or a cable grounding kit.
In addition, Andrew recommends
using an ATGK-CABLE grounding kit
(Bulletin 639596) for runs over 60 m
and at 60 m intervals. This grounding
kit clamps onto the RET connectors,
where 2 cables are joined together
without cutting into cables (Figure 2).
As an example, the ATGK-CABLE would
be used where a 40 m and a 30 m RET
control cable are joined to make a
70 m run.
Devices can be daisy-chained together with these cables.
Figure 3 shows a RET control cable daisy-chained from
a female output port of one actuator to a male input port
on another actuator.
The actuator and RET control cables are weather resistant
and do not require weatherproofi ng.
Note: RET control cables must be dressed so that no lateral
tension is placed on the actuators.

APPLICATIONS FOR RET CABLES WITH
RIGHT-ANGLE CONNECTORS
The ATCB-B01-R series control cables (Figure 5) signifi -
cantly enhance the visual appearance of antennas with
actuators.
They help to fulfi ll zoning restrictions by lowering the height
of the overall antenna system and minimizing the visibility
of AISG RET control cables (Figure 6).
Figure 7 provides an example that uses the
ATCB-B01-R50 control cable to optimize rack space.
See Table 2 for available connector combinations, typical
usage, cable lengths, and part numbers.

Two-Way Splitter Cable Adds Confi guration Options
The AISG RET two-way splitter cable allows support of multiple
RET cable confi gurations (Figure 8). It can be used to
split an AISG cable confi guration into two AISG connections.
