SURVEY WORKS
(Acceptance Criteria: Refer Section 109 of MORT&H)

Scope:

The scope of the work includes Traverse, Setting Out, and alignment fixing and recording
of OGLs with reference to the GPS co-ordinates in the DPR handed over by the client.

Equipment / Machinery Requirement:

Auto level
Total Station
GPS (If required)

Procedure:

Alignment Fixing:

The control points of GPS (Global Positioning System) pillar which are provided by the
Client at every 5 km interval and handed over for execution of the survey works. The
same GPS pillars are also having the value of coordinate and levels.

Keeping the same GPS pillar as a reference, traversing of coordinate will be fixed
between GPS pillar to GPS pillar (i.e. every 5 km interval). Closing error of traverse will
be distributed in between the two GPS pillars. The traverse closure will be within
permissible as per IRC

In between GPS pillars at every 250m interval, along the road alignment, the sub
control pillar [Bench Mark Pillar (BMP)] is fixed at the end of ROW (Right Of Way). The
location of benchmark pillar is marked at site by paint identifying location. Benchmark
pillars are concrete pillars. Size of concrete pillar is 150 x 150 x 450mm. A nail having
a fixed round head will be embedded inside the concrete pillar. During the time of
traversing the bearing will be recorded on the punch point of nail projected over the
benchmark pillar. The coordinate value of each benchmark pillar was arrived after the
traverse adjustment.

The project alignment coordinate given by client is fixed over the New
Alignment/Existing Alignment by 1- second accuracy of total station. The alignment
point is marked at every 10m interval by round head nail. The same point is marked
with yellow point and location (chainage) written on the road for quick reference. For
fixing this alignment, the traversed coordinate of benchmark pillar, fixed at every 250m
interval along the project alignment, are used and the alignment can be checked with
this reference by the client. Detailed copy of coordinate value of benchmark pillar
(BMP) along-with chainage and location will be given to clients and site engineers for
their reference and further checking.

Bench Mark Fixing:

CONSTRUCTION METHDOLOGY
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For every 250m interval a concrete bench mark pillar is fixed along the project
alignment at the end of ROW. Location and chainage is marked at site with paint. The
pillar is used for fixing the benchmark.

The level traversing will be performed retaining the RL (Reduced Level) of GPS pillar
(GPS level given by Client). During the time of traversing, the levels are transferred
over every 250m interval benchmark control pillars also. During benchmark level
transferring maximum observing distance were 50m, keeping the fore sight and back
sight distance equal. The spread between observed ranges of vertical angles did not
exceed 10 seconds. The closing error on a level circuit will not exceed 12 root of K in
mm (where K is distance in km.). The closing error will be distributed to all the
temporary bench marks in between GPS to GPS. The benchmark pillar (BMP) levels
will be checked by client for further approvals.

Detailed benchmark list consisting of level, location and chainage will be issued to
client and site engineers for their reference.

Toe Line Fixing:

The toe line will be fixed for the every layer by means of calculating the thickness of
pavement layer multiplied by percentage of given formation slope. The toe distance will
be measured from given alignment nail. The approved cross section drawings will be
followed for toe line marking.

Safety:

Steps shall be followed to ensure safe working condition during execution of this
methodology and same shall refer to and be in par with the conditions in the Contract Agreement.
