b: Instructional Steps:
Day 1: This activity will need modeling and rules of how you want students to participate in the discussion

1. Look at a piece of artwork- a painting-students will silently look at the painting for a few moments
2. What do you see? Have students write down responses on sticky notes and put on chart paper
Students can write

3. What do you think about what you saw? Put these on other sticky notes on another chart Students can write

4. What do you wonder? Do you have any questions about the artwork? I wonder_________.
5. How does this painting make you feel? I feel______. Do you like this painting?______________.
6. Why do you think the artist did this painting? What is the main idea? The main idea is___________.
7. What objects in here are living? Which ones are non living?
We have just looked at a painting done by Rachel Ruysch it is about fruit and insects and animals
This painting is done on Still Life- explain about Rachel Ruysch and still life in a few sentences-show picture on
computer and some more examples

Day 2: Give vocabulary for types of lines, shapes etc. before or during the lesson
Today we are going to create a still life drawing We will use pastels, colored pencils, crayons and markers to
create our artwork
Think about what objects real or fake you would like to draw
Remember to use lines and shapes in your drawing
You will draw some living and non living objects

Day 3: After students are finished drawing have them do the following
-Write sentences describing your artwork
-Share your artwork with a friend
-Share with the group (Have students ask questions)
What is the theme or subject of your artwork? What is the main idea?
-Why did you draw this?
More questions could be asked

Sticky notes for charts, sentences about artwork, completed artwork, write in journal, write paper about artwork
Look at paintings and fill out the see, think, wonder along with art critique or questions independently
