Aims:
1. to pre-teach useful vocabulary or structures that the learners are likely to need;
2. to enrich Ss vocabulary;
3. to encourage free conversation and develop fluency;

5. to use various grammar structures and a variety of vocabulary;
6. to encourage Ss to report sentences and questions;
Activity 1 Warm up/ Brainstorming
Aims:
-to intoduce S in the atmosphere of the lesson
-to enrich Ss vocabulary;
-to practice dialogue ;
-to reinforce Ss confidence in their ability to use the English language

Procedure:
- T greets class;
-T checks attendance;
-T presents S the name of the new unit, U18 Birds, then asks S to brainstorm and give
examples of words related to birds (vbs,nouns,adjectives).T writes the words on the
blackboard,and then says some riddles where S have to guess the bird.
Activity 2 Listening
Aims:
- to enrich Ss vocabulary;
- to practice asking and answering questions;
- to listen for specific information;
- to listen for gist;

Procedure:
-T tells S they will listen a text ,then tey will have to fiind expressions,words that have
the same meaning as the one in eg.1pg.104,then they will have to correct 6 sentences
from eg 1/b.
-T asks the Ss to take a look at the expressions from exercise 1 and discuss the task in
pairs. After they have finished, T and Ss discuss and decide upon the task and correct the
sentences.
Activity 3 Grammar practice

-to read for specific information
-to enrich Ss vocabulary
-to identify and use Reported statements/Reported questions

Procedure:
-T tells Ss that they are going to read a paragraph from the novel The Birdswritten by
Daphne du Maurier.The extract presents Nat a farm worker,who has gone to meet his
young daughter,Jill,from the school bus. Ss are asked to read, if necessary, T goes over the
new words. After reading the text T checks for comprehension,then asks S to identify in
the text Reported statements. S identify in the text the specific statements T checks the
answers then writes on the blackboard an example Whats your name?then writes the
statement in reported speech She asked him what his name was reviewing reported
speech.
In order to give students practice with reported speech T gives them handouts where they
will have to solve exercices.T checks the anwers.
Activity 4 Reading Comprehension/Role Play

Aims:
-to enrich Ss vocabulary;
-to encourage free conversation and develop fluency;
-to use a variety of vocabulary;
Procedure:
T explains S that at page 106 eg. 5, they have a text, they will read it in pairs, but before
reading it T asks S to describe the image at the same page. T asks :Where are the 3
friends?What might they be talking about?Can you see birds in the picture?
T elicits answers from S then allows them to read in pairs the dialogue.T checks for
comprehension with eg.6 pg/106 answering T/F/DK the sentences.

ACTIVITY 5: Assigning homework /Writing
Teachers activity: Teacher asks the students to write the final paragraph of the story The
Birds.
Then the teacher makes some appreciations concerning students involvement in the lesson.
The students listen to the teachers observations.
