Fast Spin Echo Fat/Water (FSEfw)
The FSEfw base pulse sequence is similar to the FSE base pulse sequences except
that two sets of data are collected which allows fat and water to be separately
reconstructed. At the beginning of the scan the magnetic field in homogeneity is
characterized. The scan then proceeds to collect two sets of image data using a
modified fast spin echo sequence. In the modified sequence the spin echo and
gradient echo are offset in time causing a phase difference between fat and water.
This is done using different echo timings. Thus the FSEfw sequence always requires
an even number of excitations (2, 4, etc.)
Choosing the Contrast Range
Up to 4 series of images are created depending
on the setting of F/W Images check boxes in the
Scan Options group. In all cases a series
containing the water images are displayed and
stored. If IP is checked In-Phase images (fat and
water combined images) generated by the FSEfw
pulse sequence are displayed and stored in a
separate series. If OP is checked, the Out-of-
Phase images (fat and water combined images)
generated by the FSEfw pulse sequence are
displayed and stored in a separate series. If F is
checked, the Fat only images generated by the
FSEfw pulse sequence are displayed and stored in
a separate series. The system always provides the
Water images.
