1. With circuit diagram and waveforms, explain the operation of single phase half controlled
separately excited dc motor for continuous mode of operation? 10M
2. Explain the operation with unbalanced rotor impedances? 5M
3. Explain about the analysis of Induction Motor fed from non-sinusoidal voltage supply? 10M

1. With a neat circuit diagram, explain regenerative, dynamic, plugging type of braking system for
separately excited dc shunt motor? 10M
2. Explain about the transient analysis of separately excited motor with armature control? 10M
3. Explain about the starting of Induction motor and discuss about star-delta starter with a neat

1. A 440V,50Hz,6 pole,950rpm, y-connected induction motor has the following parameters referred to
the stator: RS=0.5,RrI=0.4,XS=XrI=1.2,Xm=50.Motor is driving a fan load, the torque of
which is given by TL=0.0123m2 .Now one phase of motor fails. Calculate motor speed and
current. Will it be safe to allow the motor to run for a long period? 12M
2. Explain the effect of unbalanced source voltages and single phasing on the induction motor
performance? 10M
3. Explain about the starting of DC Motor? 3M

2. Design a non-saturation precision half-wave rectifier to produce a 2V peak output from sine wave
input with a peak value of 0.5V and a frequency of 1MHz use a bipolar op-amp with a supply

positive peak clamped precisely at ground level. Tilt on the output is not to exceed 1% of peak
