I collected two examples from two different students of the same vocabulary lesson that
was taken on October 25, 2016.
This document shows the work of two students on a vocabulary test. The vocabulary test
tested students on their knowledge of the six sounds, 14 words, four diagnostic words, and
two sentences which incorporated some of the words/diagnostic words. What the scanner
was unable to pick up was the teacher's corrections on the vocabulary tests. Both students,
whose names are not scanned, did well on the test with a few minor errors which were
corrected.
I only scanned two tests from students who did exceptionally well on the test compared to
their peers because of the scanner not being able to pick up corrections made by the
teacher. Based on other students responses and success on the test, I feel as though this
these tests are way too advanced for the level of the majority of the student in this particular
class, however, this document reflects the type of vocabulary tests I took in 1st grade and
all students in the first grade at this school take the same assessments so it is not probable
to make the tests easier for the students. I believe the document shows that the students
are challenged though and are tested on not just their ability to spell and sound out words,
but also on their ability to apply these words to a whole sentence. Since this is the
beginning of 1st grade, it is very important that they are working their way towards being
able to write more whole sentences without the use of pictures, which this document
accurately reflects.
