Assignment of Copyright
of a Work(s) Created by the Project Management Institute, Inc. (hereinafter PMI) by and through its Member
and Non-Member Volunteers.
I, ____________________________________, (hereinafter the Contributor/Author) acting as a PMI
Volunteer providing recommendations to the PMI Standards Program, am assisting in the creation and
preparation for PMI of a Work or Works, tentatively entitled _____________________, (hereinafter the
Work(s)).
Within the meaning of the Copyright Act of 1976, 17 U.S.C. 101, et. seq., the Work(s), as previously
described, constitutes a Work for Hire as ordered or commissioned by PMI. Therefore, it is my intent that all
materials submitted to PMI by me, both presently and in the future, in my capacity as a PMI Volunteer and under
PMIs direction and control, shall be the property of PMI, and PMI will own the copyright in such Work(s). To
the extent that the Work(s) or any part thereof does not constitute a Work for Hire, I do hereby transfer and
assign all worldwide copyright interest(s) in the Work(s) to PMI for the life of such copyright interests.
I warrant that I am the author of the Work(s), or a contributing author of the Work(s) and that, to the
best of my knowledge, the Work(s) is/are original and not in the public domain; does/do not violate, or infringe
upon, any existing copyright, common law literary right, privacy right, or any other proprietary right of PMI or
any third party; does/do not libel any other person, organization, or entity; and does/do not contain material that
is obscene or otherwise contrary to law. If the Work(s) contains copyrighted material owned by a third party,
then I agree to obtain written permission from the copyright owner to use the copyrighted material in the Work(s)
and shall promptly deliver such written permission to PMI.
I represent and warrant that I own all rights granted hereunder free of any liens or encumbrances, that I
have full power and authority to enter into this Assignment, and do so voluntarily. If I am an employee of any
government, including, but not limited, to the United States of America and the United Kingdom, and this
Work(s) was created by me in that capacity, this Assignment shall only be effective to the extent it is allowable
under any such government's applicable laws or regulations. I understand that, from the date of this Assignment
forward, the copyright(s) to the Work(s) created by me or to be created by me, is/are owned, and will be owned,
in perpetuity, solely by the Project Management Institute, Inc
The term "Work(s)" as used in this Assignment, includes, but is not limited to, the final document,
publication, or other materials identified above; all drafts of the identified materials and any editorial
modifications made by PMI; and any other materials and work products submitted for consideration for inclusion
in the Work(s), where such relevant materials are created as a result of Contributor/Authors work or activities as
a PMI Member/or Non-Member Volunteer involved in a specific activity, program or project.
PMI grants the original Contributor/Author a non-exclusive license to use the Contributor/Authors
contribution to the full Work(s) at no cost, provided that PMI copyright is properly acknowledged and no PMI
endorsement is implied. In consideration of this Assignment, PMI agrees to acknowledge that the
Contributor/Author participated in the preparation and creation of the Work(s) and will give full and complete
attribution in all versions of the Work(s). PMI reserves the right to decline to publish all or part of the Work(s),
for any reason.
