THE FEATURE AND EFFICIENCY OF T5 FLUORESCENT LAMPS

THE NEW ILLUMINANT OF 21 CENTURY

Although the low wattage T5 fluorescent lamps had been developed for a long time, the
high wattage T5 fluorescent lamps had not been developed for the purpose of general
lighting until Philips initially demonstrated their high wattage T5 fluorescent lamps in
1995. Afterward, Osram successfully developed the T5 serious fluorescent lamps too, and
then, GE and Japanese lighting companies joined the T5 fluorescent lamps industry. The
T5 fluorescent since became the mainstream lighting of 21 century.

Owing to the small size, high lumen efficiency, good color rendering, low lumen
depreciation, long lifetime, no frequency blinking, energy saving, cost reduction, less
mercury employed, rapid start under low temperature and low voltage, the T5 fluorescent
lamps have been risen to the newest high technology green illumination of 21 century

HIGH LUMEN EFFICIENCY

The phosphor is very important to the T5 fluorescent lamps. The good phosphor makes
the high lumen of the lamp, and the tri-band phosphor can generate more light than the
halo phosphor. The lumen efficiency means that the volume of light generated by a watt
electricity power. For example, a 14W tube generates 1,325 Lm light, its lumen efficiency
is 1,325 Lm ÷ 14W = 94.64 Lm/W. Our 14W of T5 fluorescent lamp employs the Japanese
tri-phosphor and is made in Taiwan, its lumen efficiency is very excellent and about 2
times of the traditional 20W of T9 or T8 fluorescent lamp. On the other hand, because the
cost of the tri-phosphor is very expensive, which is about 18 times of the halo phosphor,
some manufacturers adulterate the halo phosphor to tri-phosphor or apply the inferior
phosphor in order to reduce the cost. The impure or inferior phosphor will cause the lower
light efficiency, lower color rendering, higher lumen depreciation and shorter lifetime. Our
high wattage T5 fluorescent lamps apply 100% pure Japanese high quality tri-band
phosphor, its quality is very excellent. We have compared our 14W of T5 fluorescent lamp
with other lighting sources, a table of the comparison is as follows:

In addition, we have successfully installed the F14T5 tubes to the traditional T-Bar fixture
of T9 20W, and its performance is very good. A case as follows explains how the T5
fluorescent lamps to save power and money:
COMPARISON OF EFFICIENCY BETWEEN F14T5 AND F20T9

CASE: A twelve-floor building with measurement total 20,000 m2. Be installed with an
Embedded Grid Fixture (so called T-Bar fixture) of F20T9 per 5 m2. In case the lighting
time is 10 hours one day and 300 days one year. The yearly consumption of electricity is
580,110 degrees by applying the F14T5 T-Bar fixture, and 1,200,000 degrees by applying
the F20T9 T-Bar fixture. Suppose the cost of electricity is USD0.10 / degree, expense of
electricity can be saved for USD61,989.00 a year by applying the T14T5 T-Bar fixture.

ENERGY SAVING
The T5 fluorescent lamps can save the energy substantially. There are two methods to
analyze how the T5 fluorescent lamps save the energy:
1. Lumen Efficiency Method: this method has been analyzed as per the above-mentioned
case.
2. Power Factor (PF) Method: T5 tube usually adopts electronic ballast, its PF is about
97%-99%. T9 tube usually adopts traditional ballast, its PF normally is about 35% -
65%. The T5 tubes plus electronic ballast can save power about 30% to 60%.

RICH COLOR RENDERING

Our T5 high wattage fluorescent lamps apply Japanese 100% pure tri-band phosphor and
are made in Taiwan, its color rendering is very high, its CRI (Color Rendering Index) can
reach 80 or higher. The traditional T8 or T9 tubes apply the normal halo phosphor, their
CRI is only about 65 to 70. The higher CRI lamps can make the object’s colors bright,
vivid, real and higher visibility.

NO FLICKER
Our T5 high wattage fluorescent lamps can be equipped with the electronic ballast. As the
electronic ballast is the high frequency unit (30,000 Hz to 50,000 Hz), the tube will have
no flicker when lighting up. As for the traditional T8 or T9 fluorescent lamps, owing to
equip the traditional magnetic ballast, its working frequency is only 50 Hz or 60 Hz, which
will cause flicker of lamp. A flickering lamp will influence man’s mood, attention and
vision. A no-flicker fluorescent lamp will provide man a quiet, comfortable and healthy
lighting environment.

LOW LUMEN DEPRECIATION AND LONG LIFETIME

A good fluorescent lamp must possess the good lumen remaining rate. The slow or low
lumen depreciation represents the good lumen remaining rate. Slow lumen depreciation
depends on the good raw materials and experienced or skilled techniques. We have
devoted to the fluorescent lamps industry for more than twenty years, our T5 fluorescent
lamps had been tested by the Taiwan Electric Searching and Testing Center, the average
lumen depreciation of our F14T5 tubes is as 3.2% at 1,000 hours and 8.6% at 2,000
hours, which is much lower than the national standard 20% at 2,000 hours. Our T5
fluorescent lamp is not only with low lumen depreciation but also with the long lifetime.
The average lifetime of our T5 tubes is at least 10,000 hours. If equipped by the good
quality electronic ballast, the lifetime of our T5 tubes can reach 20,000 hours. Owing to
the low lumen depreciation and long lifetime, the user can save money of purchase and
save time of replacement.
LESS RAW MATERIALS CONSUMED
The diameter of T-5 tube is only 16mm. As the T5 tube is a miniature and slim tube, it
needs the main raw materials, glass and phosphor, only 43.8% of T-8 tube. With less raw
materials consumption and small size, T-5 tube can save space and cost in storage and
transportation.

STARTED AT LOW TEMPERATURE AND VOLTAGE

Equipped by the electronic ballast, a T5 fluorescent lamp can be started at low
temperature and low voltage. Normally, a T5 fluorescent lamp can be lighted up at –15o C
and above, and less 20% of Voltage. When cold temperature and low voltage, the
traditional fluorescent lamps usually blinks and takes time to light up, it delays our time
and affects our work and living. By using T-5 tubes, it can prevent these problems.

LESS MERCURY INJECTED TO REDUCE ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION

Mercury is very important to a fluorescent lamp. The inaccurate mercury injection will
cause the high lumen depreciation and short lifetime of the tube. However, mercury can
severely pollute our environment. For the sake of protection of our environment, the
volume of the mercury injection is very important. Owing to the small diameter and size,
T5 fluorescent lamps employ less mercury than T8, T9, T10 and T12 fluorescent lamps.
Thus, the T5 fluorescent lamps can reduce the pollution of environment.
