AMERICAN HISTORY

Course Syllabus
Hialeah Gardens Senior High
Mrs. Borges

Welcome! I hope you all had a great summer and I look forward to working with you
this school year.
In order to ensure an equal opportunity for learning, my philosophy in the classroom is
that the rules and procedures listed below must be followed at all times. By following
the rules and procedures, we will be more productive during our time together in the
classroom.

CLASS RULES
1. Be Respectful- Students should be respectful and courteous at all times.
Disrespectful comments or behavior towards myself or other students will not be
tolerated.

2. Be on Time- You are expected to be in your seats and working when the bell rings.

3. Keep Your Hands to Yourself- There should be no physical contact of any kind.

4. Stay in Your Seat- Remain in your seat at all times. You should not be walking
around during class unless you are directed to do so.

5. Focus Your Attention on Those Speaking- When someone is speaking, you are not.
Your attention should be focused on whoever is speaking, whether it is I, or another
student. In order to give your full attention and receive the maximum benefit of the
class, you should not be sleeping in class, and all electronic devices should be turned
off and put away during class.

CONSEQUENCES
If a rule is broken, the consequences are as follows:

1st incident: Warning

2nd incident: Conduct cut
3rd incident: Detention
4th incident: Parent contact
5th incident: Referral

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
These procedures should be practiced regularly in order for our time together to run
smoothly and effectively.

Bellringers: Everyday will begin with a Bellringer. A Bellringer is an assignment that

will be posted at the start of class. Completion of the Bellringers is a requirement and
will be part of your participation grade in the class. Attendance will be taken while you
work on your Bellringer.

Entering the Classroom: Students should enter the room quietly, sit down at their
assigned seats, and get started on the posted Bellringer by the time the tardy bell
rings.
Exiting the Classroom: When the bell rings, do not get up from your seat. I will dismiss
you when I am done speaking. Please do not start packing up or leave your seats until
I dismiss you.

Social Interaction within the Class: Whether we are working cooperatively in groups or
individually, we are to stay on task and follow directions at all times. If the
assignment requires you to move around the room, you should do so quietly.

Arriving Late: If you arrive tardy to class, walk in quietly, and have a seat. If you have
a pass for your tardy, please place it in the appropriate bin labeled “Passes”. I will
change your attendance from an absence to a tardy.

Homework: If an assignment is due, place it in the “Homework Bin” at the beginning of

class. Failure to turn the assignment in at the beginning of class will result in a
“ZERO” for that assignment and will require assignment documentation on the Z Log.
Five assignments on the Z Log will result in parent contact. If you are absent on the
day an assignment is given, you will have one day to make it up and turn it in with an
excused admit.

Make-Up Tests: If you are absent on a test day you will have to arrange for a make-up
test. Make-up tests are given after school or during lunch, and not during class time.
You are responsible for scheduling your make-up test.
